Wheel ???'s

I looking at new wheels and possably tires for a mazda 3. I know the factory's are 6.5" wide with 52.5mm offset ( I am thinking this is the same as backspacing?) Some of the wheels I have looked at are 7" wide. I'm guessing that the extra 1/2 inch goes toward the outside instead of adding to the offset? Using a comaprable hieght tire will I have to address any rubbing issues if turning the wheel at full lock? Has anyone experienced any abnormal tire wear when using aftermarket wheels? How about premature cv joint or bearing wear? Sorry for all the nit picky ?'s but I am a 4x4 enthusiest at heart and I don't want to experiment with wheels and tires like I have had to do with off roading. Thanks for all the help.

A 17x7" rim won't rub, I have those as my summer tires, anything wider and you may be pushing it.
