What optima battery fits our Mazda Protege5?

34/78 10.0 x 6.8 x 7.8
34 10.0 x 6.8 x 7.8 possible to get this one to work

35 9.0 x 6.7 x 7.8 I think this one.
75/35 9.4 x 6.8 x 7.8

Pep boys didn't have the sizes listing in their stupid computer, so I just grabbed the biggest yellow top they had and put it in. I'm going to have to make a tie down because none of the brackets that came with the battery work.

Hell, I put a Redtop in my car and it fits just fine. I ended up taking the OEM battery trap out because it really wasn't needed. The bracket that goes over the top of the battery is does a superb job at holding the battery in place.

Here are the specs for optima

34/78

35

I have read several people used 34/78

Looks like 35 is suppose to be for our cars but I would rather use 34/78 which is only approx 3/4 longer.
But is 50 Ah compared to 44 Ah
110 mins compared to 90 mins
(800A CCA, 1000A MCA) compared to (720A CCA, 910A MCA)

How is the fit? Any special adaptations or mods needed?

34/78 Red top with custom battery box. (Head over to ebay and type in "billet optima") The stock tie down will work with mild massaging with a hammer and a quick respray :)

nice , your header is jet hot coated ?
Yup. I've used them in the past and have always been happy with the results. However, unless you plan on holding on to your ride for a few years it's probably overkill. At least the battery box can come along for future projects.

how much is it to jet hot an OBX header ?

about $ 160, i know they were doing a 10% discount, not sure if they still are. They also have jet-hot 2000, suppose to be for a lil bit higher temp for about $20 more.

So if i can find a shop around here that has high temp paint and its gonna be the same ? there's nothing special with jet hot ?

s***.. it costs almost as much as the battery itself to get one of those billet things.

If I got the 34/78 guess which one I would get?

I know the billet is nice but too much for my liking, the $19.95 would be more my price range.
