What is the stock thermostat temp for an 03 P5.

It's time for me to replace my thermostat, and I am not sure what the stock temperature rating of the thermostat is. Also is there anything that I should look out for when I replace it.

Thanks,
The Kid

Couple things when you replace it:
1. Be sure to line up the bump on the new thermostat's gasket with the notch in the thermostat housing.
2. Clean the thermostat housing and housing cover well to ensure a good seal. Sometimes bits of the old gasket get left behind and can cause the new thermostat/gasket to leak.

I went around and around on this because there are a number of different ones on Rockauto, and then finally just bought mine from onlinemazdaparts and was done with it. It's OEM, so I know it's right. I would recommend going that route.

From the Shop manual on page 01-50-2. Ouoted in part. For FS engine.
"Initial-opening temperature (176-183)
full-opening temperature (203)"

I believe thermostat ratings are based on initial opening temps. That would make it a 180as Slavernz said.

^Ya it is definitely 180 degrees. They make 170 degree ones also, but OEM specifications is 180.
