What have you done to your MSP today?

Kinda quiet around here... well im getting this dual gauge cluster ready for install. When I got it it was in decent shape but I wanted it to look nicer so I decided I was going to sand it smooth and refinish it. Here it is prepped and sanded:

Here it is after refinishing with a badass paint that when it dries looks identical to the factory molded plastic:

And a close-up:

What kind of paint is that?

just got back from an open track day practice at a local track, got more laps than I can count in tonite. Quick question though...does anyone who tracks their car ever experience problems with the back end getting loose? Felt as if the back end wanted to keep stepping out, not sure if I've already asked but I guess I will again. I played around with dampening on the rear and it helped a little but I have no experience in setting up a car so I dunno lol. it was fun either way.

One observation I have is that you are running massive tires and 9" wheels all around as well as coilovers. That much grip on the front is going to make the back feel loose. A stock suspension MSP is a great car to learn performance driving in, but you are starting with a modified car. The coilovers and wheel setup make a huge difference in how the car behaves and every change you make to the suspension will affect one or more characteristics of the car.

1574 is still running 14psi and I reallly need to swap the wastegate and turn it down..... But damn it is so much fun!!! I upset a guy in a turbo volvo the other day, a kid in an eclipse GS-T asked if I used NOS lmfao, pulled about a half a car on a lightly modded MS3 from a 2nd gear run, and a local buddy with a yellow MSP was about 2 cars behind from a run in 3rd. This car is fast, kinda want to earn some bragging rights before I turn the boost back down.

i have a forge i think wastegate sitting on my desk if you're interested. it might be that brand. i can't remember.

Holy mother of Christ.. that was tighter than my first girlfriend.

I ground down the very edge of the tab (on the heatshield) that was making contact with the casting, that way I could keep the heat shield. It wasn't really because I wanted to.. I could not get the two bolts on the other side of the shield off.. the ones on the CHRA side.. I was terrified I was gonna break those bolts off and then be completely screwed (and I'm willing to bet thats what would have happened) so I used the handle of a hammer to pry on the shield just enough to get the pipe on there. I must have fit and refit it about 4 times though, figuring out which bolts to use and where and removing the old studs. The fact that I didn't break any of those was a miracle in itself.

I pulled the old thermostat and replaced it.. did the waterneck spacer.. Now I am mounting the fan shroud to my new radiator. I fixed the tiny leak in the first one.. tested it for 3 weeks.. its holds.. so I will be selling that once I confirm the new one doesn't leak.

Still not entirely sure how but I raced and beat an LS1 camaro last night. Older guy driving a black automatic 98-02 SS, I try messing with him to get him to race me and he does nothing for a few miles down the highway, then I pull around him and he jumped on it and I pulled him by about a half car. We both backed off and went down to 60 and he punched it and I was already boosting and slowly walked him until he was almost at my back bumper at the top of 4th gear. I honestly can't believe it, now I want to put a forged block in it and run 15psi all the time

Just curious which WGA you're running. I have a 7psi Forge WGA, and I've been having a heck of a time getting a boost controller to hold 12ish psi without spiking when I goose it in 2nd gear. Thinking about just breaking down and getting a different WGA.

Originally had a AEM Truboost, and now have a Halman MBC, which strangely is working better for me, but not perfect.

I had a Forge WGA for a couple years and it spiked horribly, WITHOUT a boost controller. I yanked it off and went back to stock and will never go back. This car running 14psi has a cheap ebay $30 WGA that claimed it was for 7-15psi applications but is actually for 10-24psi so the spring is too strong and the car will spike about 14-15psi. I can hold the pedal steady and run any boost I like but if I mash it the thing will run up to 14-15.

thanks for the input, I'm just going to try and get some more track time and see what i can do and work on my skills. Im sure most of my issues are driver related lol

Interesting... I had always heard good things about the Forge WGA. Might be time to ditch it for something else.

Went ahead and changed the oil in 1574, i've put about 4400 miles on it so far. Switched over to Mobil 1 synthetic as well with a Mazda filter. Broke the passenger side mirror off like an idiot the other day by hitting a trash can backing out of the driveway. Glued it back on today and noticed it had been broken and glued back on before.

Did this as well:

(not sure why photobucket made it so choppy, looks like it was filmed with a potato.)

I made a video of a ~55-100 pull in 1574 but uploading it ruined the quality

Its the end of summer vacation rush here in Myrtle Beach lots of vacationers in their family trucksters making the roads here totally unsafe to drive on lol. Somehow I managed to get some work done on the MSP despite having zero time. So I mentioned I had a jankily installed pillar gauge pod by the previous owner still on the car. Well I finally got to re-doing that whole setup and wow what a job they had done in there. The wires were a mess, holes drilled everywhere, I mean geez who the heck slopped this together I don't know but they sure did a great "job". Heres a couple pics to show you what I found:

Heres how they handled keeping the pillar in place:

I removed all that garbage and put in the dual gauge cluster I recently refinished. Re-wiring was fun like I said it was all effed up but I got it straight after a couple hours of being all hunched in the car. I had saved the A pillar from the original mp3 so it was put on in place of the drilled hacked up one that was there. The original mp3's soul lives on!
Here are a couple pics showing the installed cluster:

An AEM wideband gauge is awaiting install I still need to get a sensor bung installed on the exhaust pipe that will be coming up soon!

Heres the paint I used for the refinishing. I know it seems weird but it has the texture and feel and consistency of plastic and I liked that so there you go.

And from what I know the forge wga is known to be faulty and inconsistent I cant remember where I got mine but I'll try to find out which one it is...
