What are the effects of racing an engine?

All,

I'm sure we can all agree it's fun to gas your car and fly past people. Today I coasted up to a light, it turned green, and I downshifted and blew past the people in the left lane.

But I got to thinking, is this ragging out my engine? I get the oil changed regularly, is that good enough?

I know little about cars, so could anyone explain what's happening at high RPMs, as to whether or not it really matters to the engine?

Thanks.

you're probably doing more to wear out the clutch and transmission than the engine.....ps....how'd you get 5 year 100k??...is it an extended warranty?...and what does it apply to?

Yeah, it's extended, I think I paid $1300 or such for it.

Let me find my papers on it.

So the sudden speed hurts the clutch more than the engine. I read on forum that the MP3 clutches are tough. I hope so. If not, I have my warranty. :)

clutch, tires, and breaks, are all sublect to wear and tear so they aren't covered under warranty. unless you have some special warranty but i dont see how anyone could warranty your clutch.
