I had winter tires p205/65r15 on my alero 2001 that I thought would fit because it was 15 inches also on my new mazda 2. Just looking at them its pretty obvious they wont but im no mecanic.. It has all season tires 185/55r15 on right now that came with the car when i bought it. Sooo Im just looking for confirmation they wont fit before I start looking to buy new winter tires. This could have not come at a worse moment (no job)..

And am I right that 185/55r15 winter tires will definitly fit before i buy new ones lol?

Yeah, the stock tire size would be fine. The side wall on those 205/65 tires would be like 1.25" taller over the 185/55.

Larger diameter is a no no! You will rub in rear first! Look at the Power Bulges behind and slightly above the rear wheels. I tried 195s and they rubbed.

thanks for your reply joker2, that guy yesterday wanted to sell me 195/55r15 tires and "assured" me it would fit.. good thing i didnt trust him and looked for an answer here.

195/55 won't work? Why are so many people running 205/50 with no problem? lol

If I'm doing the math correctly (The way I understand tire size is that 205 is the width in Millimeters and 50 would be 50% of 205 which would give you the sidewall height in MM.... right?) then the stock tires have a 4.006" sidewall, the 205/50 would have a 4.035" sidewall and the 195/55 would have a 4.222" sidewall.

So basically the 195/55 would add about a half an inch to the diameter of the tire Where the 205/50 adds about .06" to the total diameter.

Unless I understand tire sizing completely wrong, in which case I just wasted 5 minutes of my life and you wasted another minute reading this...

My car is deliverd with standard 16" aloys and it has 195/45-16 tyres and the winter is 185/55-15.

That would make sense. Alloys are 22.91" in diameter with tires; Steelies are 23.01" in diameter with tires... Only 1/10 of an inch (2.5mm) difference.

What size 195/?? tires? I am running 205/50/15 and no problems.

Here is a useful link if you want to calculate the minute discrepancies in tire fitment.

+1 Joker. I agree. Changing the overall diameter of the tire like that will make your speedometer readings inaccurate, and also greatly alter the acceleration and braking characteristics of your vehicle negatively. The big issue is that massive aspect ratio on your old winters.
