Stagg SHS struts and Tein S-Type springs done today

Update on this thread:

These things have held up VERY well against all the stuff I put them through. Until.......

Here in League City, TX - they've stripped the road to repave it. Down to the cement foundation.....and left all the drains, manholes, and cement overages for bridges and whatnot in place.... No sort of graduation at all between surfaces....just huge obstacles (stupid in my opinion...but I digress..). I managed to drive through it the first day and seemed unscathed. But.....alas, the 2nd day came along (and I was a lil late for work) - and I got airborne over a bridge crossing. Completely fk'd the right front strut....oil allllllll over, and the rubber bushing is riding along the shaft all loose-like. Too bad. Plus, 2 dented rims (fronts..), 1 split tire (passenger front), and a bent LCA (passenger front).

These struts seemed very good. I'll most likely try to get some replacements, and keep them stagg's all the way around. I liked the ride, the control, and the confidence as I pushed the 5 all the way to the limit, and a little beyond apparently. I still support them, despite my unfortunate luck (which wasn't their fault.....it was mine honestly).

ciao!

wow that sucks. i was lucky then i guess, i went airborne in my pro and no damage how fast were you going.

I did that one time except I was in my old escort goin 65 and blew out both rear struts and springs. But are you running 16's or 17's? Just tryin to get an idea of my fittment bc I was plannin on gettin the tein springs.

i was doin about the same speed 45-50 but mine was train tracks i was having a little fun. i use to run 204/40/17 now im on 215/45/17 more tire and it fills in a little of the gap,
i am running tokicos struts and springs though. i considered the stagg struts i mean for the price you cant beat it but i also heard some bad things about them that they dont last to long, on the other end i hear people swear by them so idk. but wish ya the best of luck with the repair and hope it all works out.

Thanks guys and yeah dude good luck with the repair. Maybe there was a warranty or some s*** that might help u out. Good luck tho!

that sucks.... but can you test out the waranty for this company and report back?

I wouldn't expect them to validate a warranty that wasn't their "wrongdoing". Ya know? In all fairness - the failure wasn't any of their doing, fault, or making. I really wouldn't expect any strut that fits this car to take a beating like that and fair very well.

I'll see about it tomorrow though, as I'm interested in as much help as I can get with things. No matter the answer - I'll report my findings here.

GRRRRRRRR! one more thing - both front fenders are completely fk'd too! totally kinked the arches, and peeled them under.....what a deal, eh?

Hmm....Guess this could be my chance to put flares on all 4 and stick some 12" wheels under her.......LOL!

Since you've obviously put these to the test how well do they do handleing wise? Any fender rub issues? Also where and how much did you get them?

damn ihone sorry you had to go through all the pain.

i drove through some shiit roads earlier ( im talking nasty potholes everywhere for over 3 miles) anyways the suspension held up fine (as far as i know lol) but my intake bracket snapped :/ .... gotta love em' zip ties

but im more just checking in to say all is good :]

I paid less than 200 bucks for all 4, and got them from ebay.

As far as handling goes - for the time that I pushed them - they stood tall and begged for more, quite honestly. I was VERY surprised with their quality, considering the price-point that stands (in some people's eyes...) between these and some 500+ dollar struts. For what I did (heavy cornering aspects, straight-line/high speed consistency, and heavy braking loads) they were and still are awesome, regardless of what I paid for them. I'm happy with my purchase - and wouldn't think twice about not buying them again.

My buddy with the drift shop that helped me put these on called today. He blew a set of KYB's on his MS3 as of yesterday - same road, and I'll be damned if it wasn't the same bridge crossing - just the other direction. He was asking what the name of the struts I got were, and where I got them - he's going to give them a try. This little 3 really gets a workout also - he puts it on the track almost as much as he does his LS1 S14 and his 350Z. I'm interested to see how they do under his stress-testing, and will be gladly reporting back as often as I can about his headway.

If itl last 6 month for normalish driving ill be happy. I plan on going to coilovers come tax time but I can't stand the squeking anymore

They'll stand up for sure under normal driving conditions, just fine in my opinion. There's a few of us on here that have used them - some good, some bad. I think for the price that I paid for them, and the deliverable that I received and pushed pretty hard - it's a helluva deal.

I support that X2

the p5 is down right now - waiting for some parts for the KL swap.

I blew the front 2 struts "off-roading" on our major road by the house, here. They stripped all the asphalt off, but left the damn manholes sticking up about 8-10 inches. Didn't take but about 2 weeks - and they were both leaked-down to nothing. The rears were definitely still holding up - and they did soften up a little bit. Stock but just a tad stiffer.....perfect for a lil country po'boy like me.
