Out with the old (intake tube) and in with the new

Son came home from AZ and said his CEL was on. Checked codes and found a "lean" condition (don't recall the exact code). Open the hood and quickly found cracks in the intake tube. Since I didn't happen to have one handy (no local parts available as well) and my son had to leave for home, I did what I had to do. Wrap it in duct tape with a few zip ties. Cleared the codes and off he went.

So that was about a year and a half ago. He's been driving it the whole time and no engine issues, no CEL. He recently decided to move back locally, so I ordered and replaced the tube. Hard to believe the old one was still working.

An oil change place cracked my intake tube (resulting in pinging) and broke the handle off the oil dipstick right before a planned eleven-hour trip. The shop manager admitted fault and wrapped the intake tube with filament tape. That stuff worked great and got me to Santa Fe and back, no problem.
