Solo events board update

Let this be a call for an opportunity for all you MSP stock class autocrossers... start writing your letters to the SEB right now to get the MSP bumped down to GS. It could be a really nice GS car. Now that the 05 Mini S is staying in GS there is no excuse. The new mini has 163HP a front LSD and weighs 2400lbs. We're at 175 front LSD and 2800 lbs. There is NO reason that we couldn't put the call out to get the Mazdaspeed put in the same league as the MP3 since they are virtually the same car with their own advantages/disadvantages...

Its an opportunity... I say jump on it.(nana)

I agree. I already started the letter. Of course, I have never had any luck with the SEB.

I may even try to make the case to move MP3 and Mazda3 to HS as well. Since their avowed reason was that cars are getting faster, this might work. An MP3 is only slightly faster than a P5 and most of that is the better OEM tires on the MP3.

While I don't pretend to be competitive at a national level, I think a reclass to GS of the MSP would get laughed out of court down here in JAX... It seems I've done a bit too well in DS.... And wait!!!! Hoosiers are ON THE WAY!!!!! :)

i agree that the MSP would rip up GS as it stands right now. however, the presence of LSD-equipped MCSs is going to throw the current pecking order in GS down the toilet, IMO. i really don't understand the decision to basically take (not the dominant car, but) one of the best GS cars and allow it the additional big advantage of an LSD. IMO, if the LSD MCS is GS-legal, the Spec-V, the MSP and (maybe) the WRX should bump down as well.

i thought part of the objection to moving all MCSs to DS was that it would render uncompetitive all the current MCSs, but this has done the same thing, along with (likely) rendering obsolete the Celica.

the MP3 definitely should be in HS.

maybe we need "I-stock." :)

I don't think the MSP will do as well in GS as you think. The MP3 didn't even make a dent in GS the last few years. And the MSP would not be the lightest, most powerful GS car running by any means. I think it would fit in well in GS but not dominate, at least not at a nationals level against 2200lbs Celicas.

it seems like it does ok in DS, so it seems like moving it down to GS would give it even more of an advantage. there may be lighter cars, and there may be more powerful cars, but no cars (IIRC) that are both (besides the currently non-competitive, severely traction-limited RSX-S).

the celica GT's are great cars, but there's a reason they're in GS.

and honestly, the MP3 isn't much of a comparison...probably closer to an ES than an MSP in reality (which is why i think it should move down to HS where it *might* be viable competition for the cooper).

it's all just bench racing in the end anyway. :)

<-- wants an STU RX-8.

I'll be competing in my MP3 next season and I'm actually quit interested to see how it does here in the ATL Region. We have a Nationally competetive Celica that shows up from time to time, but otherwise I'd like to see how I will stack up to the rest of the regulars. I am by no means a Nat'l driver but I have Paxed in the top ten in a underprepped DS WRX (no Hoosiers) out of ~225 drivers.

I will actually be seeing how close to my buddy in DS in his WRX that I'm co-driving with right now. I am running around a second faster than him with conservative launches and short-shifting into second gear. I have a feeling that I can be within a second of him in the MP3 since it handles infinately better than the WRX. Power and traction may pose a problem, but once I figure out how to drive it I think it will run well.

Any hope of getting the non S Mini's kicked out of HS? They've ruined HS for anyone with a pure grocery-getter FWD car. Either that or it's time for I-Stock to be created. How is anyone with an older FWD sedan supposed to compete with a two-door sports car that handles like a go-cart, underpowered or not?

How can you say that, James???? 1st at the Pro Finale and 2nd in Nat Finals in HS this year was Loren in the 2.3L Focus...

The MINI is VERY strong, but not the ONLY choice out there...

the general vibe seems to be that if you want to be competitive, don't run an older FWD sedan. bascially, "suck it up and buy a competitive car."

not necessarily a philosphy i agree with, but in reality, there's not going to be I-stock (or any additional stock classes). the rules are tweaked more with the national-level competitors in mind than the regional players. and in the end, individual regions can make up whatever classes work best for them.

IMHO, the 3 should be an HS car, esp since it was a stretch in GS before this. i think it and the 2.3L focus would be good competition for the MINI.

Agreed, the Mazda 3 should have been in HS all along, since the newer Calif 2.3 Focus's (Focii?) were left in HS (145HP). When the P5 first came out, it was in E-Stock with all the 16v Protege's and Escorts. My main beef about the Mini vis-a-vis HS was that H-Stock is an entry level class if there ever was one. The bottom of the barrel, the lowest of the lowly. Mom's old Jetta, the girlfriend's old Sentra. If it's slow and stock, enter it here. Now you might have to run the old underpowered 4 door against an a car that, while underpowered itself, does possess incredible handling, so much so that it can match 700' slalom times (Road & Track: road test digest, 7 cones 100' apart) with the likes of a Z-06 Vette (67 MPH), and whip (by 2-5 MPH faster) such cars as the WRX, Miata, Sentra SE-R V-Spec, MR-2 Spyder, Neon SR-4T, Focus SVT, and on and on. To beat those cars through a slalom says alot about the potential to change direction quickly, an important aspect of Solo II. But hey, it is a trendy popular car, and maybe politics come into play, the lastest cool car winning the latest cool sport. So be it. I'm in STS for now, and it has it's advantages (suspension upgrades for sure), but God do I miss R compound tires. Maybe I'll get some next year and go the FSP route. :)
