regular protege motor

i just change the oil. saving for the turbo and manifold trying to buy steepspeed manifold but dont know how much. today my car keep dying on me . i didnt know what it was ,i poped the hood and seen smoke. i was like(**** not again) but it was the a connection... some spark with the car. and yeah it doing good it around 14. a/f. i pick up fast but it hit 12 psi some time when i floor it.
 
Take off that funky boost controler and drive it off just the wga. We need to be sure the car is behaving normally and all is well before you get up over 8psi.
 
Something is still wrong, there should be no reason your hitting 12psi with a stock set up. There has to be a crack somewhere in the system leading to the wga.

now i feel like the car is at lo idel some times it turn off. still havnt found the problem. im going to be looking at all the lines.(cryhard)
 
Low idle and a CEL? Check the code, from all that we've gone over on the car I'm starting to thing you may have a bad EGR now. We've checked a lot of it off the list, there's little else left if you've been listening to what I say.

you can also try cleaning the EGR for hell of it... see the how-to link in my sig and look it up.

Edit: BTW Rob I have surpassed you on your Brute!
 
i will try to clean the egr see if it helps. still runs good. i know the turbo not bad . it still spools real good. i just stall sometimes . i remember when i first got my BOV it would do that but it stop. now its doing it again. lits see if it works. can u guy put up the how to on the EGR.. oh about that motor for that guy i was trying to send biz or there. didnt know he was NJ .
 
Lol that's not what I meant, be careful though it gets addicting.

I was curious on the car, are you going to do the EGR yourself or have Justin do it? I want to see how you redid your wastegate line.

hola fellow zoom zoom boom club members. I put money down on an engine yesterday. sickening....

Now I've been told my crossover and a local (houston) mazda only shop that the regular protege motor will work...and I believe that it will from what I've heard on here.

But the best part was the lady at the place where I put payment down on the engine.

Her: "Is this engine going in a regular protege or MSP?" I told her an MSP.......begin her rant......

"I'm just letting you know that if you modify this engine to fit a turbo on it we will void the warranty (1 year, no knocks, oil leaks, or smoke)"

I told her they are the same engine internal and that mazda just threw a turbo on it, but it's the exact same engine.

Her: "They ARE NOT the same engine, the MSP engine is designed totally different with different compression for a turbo setup....you're going to put this engine in and a few miles later you're going to blow the head gasket on it"

Me: "I just wanna make sure it's an FS-DE, not and FS-ZE."

Her: "I'm not sure what that is....."

Me: "Just sell me the engine and void the warranty....it won't leak oil because the turbo will eat it all :D "

Her: "I've been dealing with engines for 15 years, I know what I'm talking about."

Me: "You know broad engines in general I'm sure, but a talk to people that specialize in this engine....I think they know what they are talking about more than you, it's the only engine they deal with...no offense"

Her: "Debit or Credit..."

Anyway....my roommate was all like, you better listen to her man....don't blow another motor. And this coming from a guy that can't change a tire, and he can't afford his own car so I have to let him use my 2000 altima. He was with me when the engine blew and fire came out of the vents in the hood and out the sides....he said..."What was that? Did it backfire."

Here's a pic of what I simply reached down and pulled out of the hole that was left.

yeah, it's wavy....and one side of it is all beat up. Probably due to the fact that i drove the car for about 9-10 months with it knocking....but I was told by several mechanics it was a valve making the noise.

it only made noise when i was at a cruising / steady RPM...if I let off the gas it stopped, if I gave it gas it stopped....so it was weird sounding.

But the day it blew....MAN!! It sounded like i had marbles in the engine...just pinging and poppping like i've never heard an engine do before....when it blew I was babying her back home and was doing 35mph in 5th...and the boost was pegged at full.

then zoom zoom boom. lol.
