Recall: Possible Loss of Steering Control

ATTACHMENT I –SERVICE INFORMATION
Recall Campaign 9316D
CONDITION OF CONCERN
On the front suspension of certain subject vehicles, it is possible that the lower nut and bolt, mounting the
shock absorber and steering knuckle, may loosen, causing a rattle noise, and the nut and bolt may fall off.
After extended operation, in the worst case, the front shock absorber and steering knuckle may separate,
causing a significant loss of steering control and increasing the risk of a crash.
Dealers are instructed to inspect the tightening condition of bolts and nuts on front suspension, and if
necessary replace them with new ones and tighten to the proper torque specification. This inspection
and repair must be performed on all subject vehicles at no charge to the vehicle owners.

JM3 KE**** G0 615341 749123

So if the above range of 615341-74913 is where ones VIN falls into. That means it is part of the recall?

That would mean 133,782 vehicles are affected with the above range.

113,387 + 95,287 + 133,782 = 342,456 vehicles

mine is a 2016.5 and VIN falls after the JM3 KE**** G0 615341 749123 range so I'm guessing I'm ok.

I don't believe it works like that. The VIN's fall into the range, but that does not mean that there is one vehicle for each number. Like credit card numbers, there's an algorithm that can validate and avoid issues like transposed digits and typos.

Vin does have a check digit but it is embedded before the last digits which normally are sequential but may jump for different model configutations.

Mine is in that range. I wonder if this explains what I have been experiencing: http://www.mazdas247.com/forum/showthread.php?123854527-Wheel-wheel-rattle

When I search the recall database with Mazda Canada using my VIN it only lists the recent fuel filler recall. Does this mean mine isn't going to be considered?

I just made an appointment for my 32,000 km service and the fuel filler recall. I mentioned 9316D, they said they can't go ahead with the fix unless it comes up in the system under my VIN, though they said they will at least inspect the area. The appointment is next week, if my vehicle is affected I might get a letter by then.

My number is in the range being 729943 for my 2016 CX- 5 but it is not on Mazda Canadas site. Is Canada just behind?
