Purge Valve Hose Orientation?

Can someone please tell me what hose connects to what port on the Purge Valve? 03 Protege. I took it off to test (was faulty) and forgot to mark what hose goes where...

Im pretty sure the one on the end goes to the throttle body, and the one closer to the plug goes to the charcoal canister.

So when I tested it the top nipple of the solenoid would not hold vaccumm, but the bottom would hold? Does this mean it is bad or is this normal behavior of the valve since the bottom is the side that is getting sucked into the throttle body?

I would bet that its normal. It isnt supposed to be open all of the time.
