Power tailgate opens on its own vs. doesn't latch properly when closed manually

My dear wife just informed me that when she opened the garage door remotely, it stuck, so instead of seeing what could have caused this, she closed the door and opened it again. Well, it appears that my liftgate on my 2011 CX-9 GT either didn't latch when closed manually or opened by itself. Significant damage to my tailgate.

Anyone else experience anything like this?

Inspect the rod connecting to the metal. It is kind of fragile. Your wife might have damaged it.
