If you opt for a 'Speed model of Protege, you can sacrifice reliability for practicality.

I would get a 3 before a protege. Much more reliable motor and I really dont think the older (04-06 models) are that much money.
Unless you're talking about getting a BG protege with the BP motor, then you loose no reliability whatsoever.
