Here are a few pics of my rear driver side shocks. Does the plastic part at the top look messed up? Could this be causing my problem? Thanks.

yeah, that looks jacked up.
rubber pad should be the seat the springs set in.

^^^ exactly what I was about to say. the rubber thingy should be under the springs between the springs and the plate part of the strut that the spring sits on

Yep. If the struts are old - now is a good to time to replace.

^Agreed.
When the springs compress, they rotate just a smidge (thats the technical term for it). This will cause a little bit of a burp type sound. For a quick fix, I have used marine grease before. It helps for about a week. Definitely take the time to fix it right though.
