Hey guys and girls,

After much research I decided to buy a set of EVO IX rims with stock Yokohama Advan A-046 tires for the P5. My research concluded that the inside clearance to suspension components would not be an issue, and it was not. The only question was how much would they stick out. Stock wheels are 16x6 and EVO IX wheels are 17x8 w/ 38mm offset. I believe the stock ones have 45mm offset. Stock tires are 195/50/16 and EVO IX tires are 235/45/17. I have Mazdaspeed Racing Beat springs all the way around and Mazdaspeed shocks as well.

Conclusion: Offset could have been more aggressive as there was plenty of clearance inside. Front would probably be ok if you have as much camber as I have, but the rear is much more of a problem as you can see from the pictures. If you ran much narrower tires, with a couple of degrees camber in the rear, you might make it work. This tire and wheel package weighs 44.8lbs.

so they fit with no problem? any rubbing? ive been thinking about doing this for quite some time now

you didnt say if they rubbed though lol, but yea those def would with a 35mm offset, how do u like the suspension set up? it actually looks pretty nice with a 45 series height tire.

nah, 215 will be stretched, but its the closest tire size to OEM. it will only make your speedometer read .3% faster. so if your speedo says 60 mph, youll actually be goin 60.2 mph. if you went with the 225/40/17 (which ive been told doesnt exist, but ive never looked into it personally), the speedo will be 1.7% faster. not much of a diff, but i always like to go as close to OEM as possible. its totally your call tho, the cars gonna look great either way you go.

ehh as long as u know what your speedo should be at thats fine, mine is way off with my winter set up (about 3-4mph higher at 60) but thanks to my scanguage II I can just adjust the diameter difference on that and read it off of it.

alright, i looked into the 225/40/17 tire size. i found one brand (nitto) makes 1 tire that size. it probably takes forever to get it. thats the prob im having with the stock 195/50/16 size. i have to order it anytime i need a new one. so to save yourself some hassle, you might want to talk to your local tire shop and ask them which tire would be best for you and which would be easiest to get in case you have an emergency blow-out or something.

thats true. i just hate to always have to guess. cops down here in tx (particularly around the college campus i attend) will write you a ticket if youre doin even just 1 mile over the speed limit.

Probably a 50mm offset would be more appropriate. I had less than 1/2" clearance from the rear fender to the tire. The rims itself was about 1" past the plane of the fender (stuck out about 1"). I tried to go up a moderate driveway on a angle and it rubbed immediately. You can actually see the mark where it rubbed on the closeup picture. The point is that you would have to go with such a narrow tire, that it would defeat the purpose of running a 8" wide rim. Also you would have to run extremely aggressive camber in the rear, which does not make any sense with a front wheel drive car. It would improve the tire contact patch in the rear during turning, which would probably cause even more understeer. The Yokohama tires are about 7% larger in diameter than the original tires. With the original tire, the car's speedometer indicates speeds which are slightly faster than the actual speed (according to my gps). Mine is about 2 mph off at 65mph (actually about 67-68 as indicated on the gps)

This is a great website for comparing tire and wheel packages for size, width and fitment.

um good luck with lowering your car with it passing the fenders like how it is
