i only ever use the OEM for the speed6....but i used purolater(sp) filters on the protege with no issues

I have always liked K&N oil filters. P/N HP-7013 for MS6 and most Mazda/Ford 2.3L cars.

Wix makes a great filter and Amsoil is the absolute best oil money can buy in my opinion. It's just so expensive! Where do you get it, do you order it online or is there a local chain that carries it?

for oil I only use ELF.

fram they are all made in the same place same material ph9641 just hit 60000 miles every 3000 miles oil change with mobil 1 syn and fram filters no problems

^What he said. We opened up a bunch of different brands of filters in my auto tech class back in high school. The fram looked like the biggest piece of junk I've ever seen. Looked like some one had slapped together a bunch of cardboard and called it a day...
