OBX header throwing CEL

Did a group install of this 2 weeks ago... put in the MIL eliminator... threw a CEL exactly 6 1/2 days after install. Thought it might be a fluke-- reset ECU-- threw another one today about 6 1/2 days to the dot after I last reset it.... so clearly the MIL eliminator ain't working.

Any thoughts what I should check first? The wiring seems to be intact.

I don't have any experience with the MIL eliminator fix, however I recommend trying the spark plug anti-fouler fix. I've had this on for a few thousand miles w/out any issues. If you don't want to try the later perhaps try reinstalling the MIL eliminator (i.e. perhaps you have a bad part). Best of luck...

Matt

Make sure you used a non-polarized capacitor...I threw a CEL once because I used a polarized one....3000 km's and no CEL.

I second the spark plug non-fouler. After seeing so many failed attempts at it, I put on the 2 non-foulers. 2K miles, no problems.

So without rewiring, I can drop a non-fouler in each connection and it should fix it?

BTW howz dat JDM blinker fluid treatin' you yo?

lol. I thought nobody ever looked at sigs, so I put those in a few weeks ago. Now that they have been noticed, I suppose I oughta take them off...

Remove all that capacitor resistor stuff, go get a pack of non-foulers. Drill 1 out with a 1/2 drill bit, or cut out with dremel, then put the o2 sensor in that one, then connect the last non-fouler to that one, and screw them all in. Pretty easy.

Can I save myself some unsoldering/resoldering, just leave the capacitor in there, and just screw in a non-fouler each (holes cut out of course) into each sensor, plug back in?

I don't know... if you put in a polarized capacitor, it's always possible that the reason the ECU is throwing a CEL is the capacitor is giving the ECU the wrong voltage. This means even if you put the nonfoulers on, it'll still send the ECU the wrong voltage. I'd say to be safe you should undo it.

ok here I go again on my short little rant- NON FOULER IS THE s***- 3000 miles and no bull s*** - cost me $3.

here is a quick how-to
it's from an EVO forum but the concept is the same
(the non fouler goes on the lower bung! and yes you have to get rid of the capacitor)

This is how to make a mechanical o2 fix if you have a test pipe/resonator/high flow cat, that gives a cel. You can find it on ebay for about 15 dollars shipped. But why buy it when you can make it for 3 dollars using parts from your local Pep Boys?

First of all you will need 2 spark plug anti-foulers (18mm). It is made by the HELP! brand part#42002 or 42009.

You will also need a 1/2" drill bit and drill. Or a drill bit close to that size

Drill one one the anti-foulers so that the o2 sensor can fit. I recommend using a vise grip and lube for the drill bit if you ever plan on using it again.

This is how the hole should look after. If it doesn't come out nice use a dremel or a file.

Put the one anti-fouler you drilled and connect it on top of the one you didn't. Now you don't have to buy a electrical fix and splice your wires.

Here it is installed. I recommend using anti seize on all treads.

the fix goes on the Second bung

Rough example:
First bung- normal o2 sensor goes there

Second bung is down here

THIS IS WHERE THE NON FOULER GOES
you put the o2 sensor on after it

I hope this clears some things up.

Thanks. I should have just done the anti-fouler to begin with.... however the board member I bought the header from (new) threw the capacitor kit he had in for free so I figured 6 and 1/2 dozen the other...

Heheh... you put yr weeeeed in it!

correct. It's pulled out of the stream, but it's still able to sense the heat and relay to the ECU that it's working, even though it can't sense the consistency of the gasses
