I live in Michigan. We've had a great deal of flooding here and I found myself powering through a foot and a half (estimate) of water in an intersection the other day (picture attached). I've seemed to have a few side effects. One, my alarm system chirp has become quite awkward sounding -- but nothing has had time to dry out yet, as it has still been raining 4 days later.

The other thing -- which I am most concerned about -- is that I have insulation, and what appears to be heat shielding above my exhaust pipes, underneath the car is now damaged. It was completely water logged and is now ripped and hanging. Does this serve any meaningful purpose? Is this something I am going to want to look into getting fixed?

I ask because a few years ago, my plastic shielding underneath the engine was damaged and broke off. The dealership advised I just rip the rest off and no need to replace. After much consideration and asking the forum, I decided to have it replaced. I found that the engine has a habit of sucking things up into it because it sits so low, and provides extra protection against engine damage.

My Mazda 3 is a 2007, bought brand new with 3 miles on it ... it just turned 98,000 miles a few days ago, It looks REALLY good for the mileage and I haven't had any majour problems with this car, I would like it to last as long as it can.
