TURBO 2002 Mazda Protege5
As most of you would know I recently blew up my gear box (2002 P5). I got my car back after a full re-build with treated internals. But when I drive, it does the weirdest thing.

When you accelerate the steering wheel tenses up, it slighty kicks to the right. But when you take your foot off the accelerator, the tension in the steering wheel is removed and the wheel goes back to normal. What could this be.

I went back to my mechanic today. They did a wheel alignment, but the problem is still there. When you accelerate the car shoots off to the right, but when you take your foot off it goes back to the left. If you accelerate and take your foot of the constantly the car goes right/left, right/left, etc. This is all at low speeds, so it isn't happening because of huge power.

There isn't a LSD installed as it is the normal P5 gearbox.

Drive Shafts or Diff...
I thought it might be the diff at first, but my mechanic said it wouldn't be. The diff and shafts were checked before they went back in. Also, other than the car jerking (right/left) when you put your foot on and off the accelerator it drives well. So of it was the Diff or Drive Shafts would I be having other problems as well?

sounds like some goofy torque steer situation going on; it's probably exhacerbated by the turbo to some extent.

any other changes less the tranny?

WE FOUND IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

At lunch time I went down to my local Pedders to see if they can find what it is. Well, they found it. Apparently my mechanic didn't do the bolts on one of the control arms properly. It was hanging on for dear life. There was a very good chance that it might of fell off on my way home, and only god knows what would of happened then.

But it is all working fine now.

Holy s***, The simple things are so hard to find some times. I'm happy that it didn't come off on you!

Yeah, i'm glad it didn't come off aswell. Just in case you are wondering, Pedders is a suspension specialist here in Australia.
