MSP/Protege 5' differences?

I know that the MSP is supposed to use the stock 2.0 liter engine from the Protege 5 but does anyone know what other modifications were done such as larger injectors, piggyback ecu. etc?
These parts should be easily bought from Mazda to create a turbo Protege 5' factory style. :D
Thanks,
Evan

It's got a LSD, 17in wheels, TURBO CHARGER, diffrent ecu. The parts ie:Turbo, piping, manifold, ect will only bbbe abbbble to bbbbe ordered on an exchange bbbbbasis. So if you don't already have on you can't get one.

Just use the search funtion. No need to re-type everything again.

In Summary, there are 1400 changes done to the MSP. Not sure how many done on engine. Internals are the same. Personally, if you want to turbo your car....get the Begi kit or spoolin setup, it would probably be cheaper in the end. Mazda won't be releasing the factory turbo / parts to dealers unless it is for repairs to existing Mazdaspeeds. Even then, they need the VIN # of that car in order to order it.

Well the lsd would be easy enough to get, as would the 17 inch wheels. If there really were no changes to the engine than it shouldnt be to hard as you can fab all the piping and buy a manifold and turbo charger. Then you just need to nab on of those ecu's.
:)

IIRC, they also beefed up the clutch and halfshafts of the MSP to handle the extra torque.

and good luck finding one of them MSP ECUs, since they aren't available as over the counter parts from the dealer. All Mazdaspeed-specific engine-related parts are only available as replacements for existing MSPs :D

and at cost of $1000's each, There's probably better ways to tune the ECU for a lot less

of course, don't forget the whole suspension upgrade MSP has gone through. those parts should be available for purchase in the future...

tell me about it. it would be easy if we could just put the speed kit in our PR5's or Protege's. it aint going to happen though. So, like the man said. get a Spoolin kit or a BEGI. take a look at the Spooling website and go to the forced induction forums. You can get a turbo kit for as little as 2500$ that will put out 160 at the wheels. Upgrade another 900$ on an intercooler and you'll be at 197 at the wheels ! Then, they have an ECU coming out, estimates on that output is at 250 at the wheels. You'll be able to show an MSP up man! Check out the Spoolin Turbo site or Flyin Miata.

clutch fork is also beefed up for easier pedal effort

there's a bunch more detailed info on my site

suspension and interior part #s are already released

Very nice info. I guess some of this is fairly recent? Is there a service manual addendum for the Mazdaspeed Protege? I see that the MP3 wheels are 50mm offset. Are the Mazdaspeed Protege wheels also 50mm offset?

will a stock transmission hold up to 160, 197, or 250 at the wheels and are there any options available as far as trannies go?

Hey All,

If you want a LSD for your car go to the junk yard and find a 323 gtx or gtr FWD or AWD. Take the LSD from that and place it in yours. Took me about 3 hours to put mine in.. It has to be for a g series transmission. Also in the US they had a AWD mx6 4 door turbo charge which had an fs motor. The car was out in the mid to late 80's. I am kicking myself for selling the turbo manifold and turbo. YES uit does fit amigos hehehe,

My 91 escort gt with the mazda bp motor ran 13.8 @ 101 mph
I had a stage 3 clutch in my g eries transmission with a lsd. My car had about 190 hp at the wheels and 225 at the crank all motor. Its all about the cam regrind and decking the head.
