That looks exactly like my 2013 Subaru Impreza sunroof. I was driving home from work talking on hands free to my wife when BOOM there is a huge noise and we both freaked out. I heard wind noise and glass falling across my roof as I drove. Luckily my sunroof shade was closed and caught all the glass. My insurance covered it when Subaru would not. It ended up costing $1100 to fix (I only had to pay a glass deductible of $100).
If you google spontaneous sunroof failure, you will find many similar articles. One speculation is that there were imperfections in the metal used. The metal then corrodes and expands very slowly, eventually causing failure. They all end up exploding upward like a volcano. I traded in my Subaru for my Mazda (which also has a sunroof), but I still believe there really is a problem with these sunroofs and not just a rock... They say a rock would need to hit the sunroof going straight down at like 50mph to break it and there is very very little chance of that.
