Mazda5 Owner's Quiz

In an effort to learn more about new Mazda5 owners, I created a little quiz. Please answer only if you have bought a Mazda5:

1. Which model / color / transmission / options / etc. did you get?

2009 Mazda5 Grand Touring - Brilliant Black

2. Whereabouts are you located?

Southeast Michigan

3. Is this your first Mazda?

Nope - have a 1985 RX-7 GSL-SE and a 1993 MX-3 GS SE

4. What other vehicles were you considering, and what would you have bought if the Mazda5 didn't exist?

Considered (and hated) a used Jeep Commander and while we loved the new Ford Flex it was too big and too expensive for what we "NEEDED" and the fuel economy stunk.

5. What were the main three reasons why you chose the Mazda5?

Value, styling, seating capacity compared to fuel economy, and pseudo-Euro image.

6. If you could change three things about the Mazda5 and/or the options avaliable for it, what would they be?

Better audio system, stability control, and availability of heated seats with cloth. OK - why not the Mazdaspeed Turbo 2.3??? I would have paid about $1500 more for that option as long as the 5-speed auto was available (wife's primary vehicle)

7. Do you plan to make any modifications?

Not likely but simple performance enhancements are being considered - will look here for ideas...

8. Have you seen any other Mazda5s on the road yet?

A few, but we do like the uniqueness of the vehicle.

9. What kind of reactions have you received from others on your new Mazda5?

Too early - but so far we are telling everyone that it was a "logical/practical" purchase even though the styling does give the vehicle some energy and we all secretly know about the "zoom-zoom" effect.

10. So, is the Mazda5 a MAV, a minivan, a space wagon, a microvan, crossover, toaster oven or what?

Good question.....for us, its the most fuel efficient, fun vehicle that seats six. We'll let everyone else debate what it "is"...

11. What question did I forget to ask?

How about those damned oil changes????

1. Which model / color / transmission / options / etc. did you get?
2008 Mazda5 Sport - Stormy Blue Mica 5 speed AT

2. Whereabouts are you located?
Johnson City, NY = Upstate

3. Is this your first Mazda?
Nope - had acouple of 3's

4. What other vehicles were you considering, and what would you have bought if the Mazda5 didn't exist?
nothing else

5. What were the main three reasons why you chose the Mazda5?
6 seats, seating capacity compared to fuel economy, and I had some things left from the 3's, like Snows on 16" wheels, the Thule roof bars and box that fit.

6. If you could change three things about the Mazda5 and/or the options avaliable for it, what would they be?
Stability control, and availability of heated seats with cloth. OK

7. Do you plan to make any modifications?
I will be installing a Kenwood Stereo form the 3 that does HD radio and Sirius.

8. Have you seen any other Mazda5s on the road yet?
A few, but I also like the uniqueness of the vehicle.

9. What kind of reactions have you received from others on your new Mazda5?
Too early - but so far we are telling everyone that it was a practical purchase so I can bring more people on vacations with us.

10. So, is the Mazda5 a MAV, a minivan, a space wagon, a microvan, crossover, toaster oven or what?
For me, its the most fuel efficient, fun vehicle that seats six but doesn't have all-wheel or four-wheel drive that I didn't want.

1. Which model / color / transmission / options / etc. did you get?

Black on black Sport automatic.

2. Whereabouts are you located?

Washington DC suburbs

3. Is this your first Mazda?

Yes

4. What other vehicles were you considering, and what would you have bought if the
Mazda5 didn't exist?

Subaru Outback, VW Jetta or Passat wagon, Audi A3.

5. What were the main three reasons why you chose the Mazda5?

1. Practicality - this includes seat folding configurations, storage capacity, sliding doors, etc.
2. 3rd row seating (I have 2 children under age 10, they have friends, of course)
3. Like a minivan without being large like a minivan (what's so mini about today's minivans?)

6. If you could change three things about the Mazda5 and/or the options available for it, what would they be?

I don't like the clear plastic taillight covers. Round lenses on a background matching the body color would be better IMO.

Wish they named it something other than "5". Reminds me of the Peanuts' character.

7. Do you plan to make any modifications?

Probably not. Maybe buy the rear bumper guard and install it myself. Maybe roof racks at some point. Not really mods, just adding accessories.

8. Have you seen any other Mazda5s on the road yet?

Yes, but more Kia Rondos.

9. What kind of reactions have you received from others on your new Mazda5?

Too soon to say, bought it 2 days ago.

10. So, is the Mazda5 a MAV, a minivan, a space wagon, a microvan, crossover, toaster oven or what?

What is the air-speed velocity of an unladen swallow?

1. Which model / color / transmission / options / etc. did you get?
2009 GT/White/Auto/Sirius Radio/most everything comes standard

2. Whereabouts are you located?
Bolivia, NC (Bought in Myrtle Beach, SC)

3. Is this your first Mazda?
Yes, but my son has had an MX-6 and owns a Mazda 6 now.

4. What other vehicles were you considering, and what would you have bought if the Mazda5 didn't exist?
Looked at Honda Fit, VW Jetta Sportwagon, Nissan Versa Hatchback. Probably would have bought the Honda Fit.

5. What were the main three reasons why you chose the Mazda5?
Style, comfort, fuel economy. It strikes a nice balance. Also the other vehicles we looked at were too low for us.

6. If you could change three things about the Mazda5 and/or the options avaliable for it, what would they be?
Needs mud flaps, should come with a bumper protector, shorter antenna.

7. Do you plan to make any modifications?
Ordered shorter antenna, bumper protector and extra generic transponder key. My dealer wants $420 for a spare! Would like to find mud flaps that fit. The Mazda 5 ones say "Not for GT".

8. Have you seen any other Mazda5s on the road yet?
Not sure. The first one we saw, we bought. Had been looking for a while and the 5 hit our sweet spot. Researched online in forums and it sounded "Right".

My wife's friends loved how easy it was to get in and out and how comfortable it is. My wife loves the ride.

10. So, is the Mazda5 a MAV, a minivan, a space wagon, a microvan, crossover, toaster oven or what?
I think it's a sport wagon made right for us.

11. What question did I forget to ask?
What are we going to use it for? My wife sews and needs a vehicle that can load and unload easily (Low, flat rear floor) with lots of space. In fact she left this morning for an all day sewing class. We will seldom use the rear seats. You might ask if it's going to be used more for city or highway driving. Ours will be almost all highway. I can't wait to see if I can make the trip to my son's house in DC on a single tank of gas. Never have yet!

Well I have an 06 so they have now fixed what I would want fix on mine. Rear A/C, front passenger arm rest, automatic sliding doors.
Also, when I bought mine, they had the option for the over-head DVD player but at the time Mazda didn't find the over-head DVD player that they wanted to factory install, so I couldn't get that feature :( That's what the car salesman told me so he could have been BS'ing me for all I know...

We probably would have opted for the basest of base models even if more options were available, but I could imagine myself being disappointed that the manual transmission is only available on the base model.

Hello

Well, I'm picking up my Mazda 5 tomorrow from the dealer.. finding a MT 09 was tough, they had to have it relocated from another state. I'm really glad I found this forum, as there is a LOT of good information here for things to do to the car. Just wanted to say hello and thank everyone for the great info, I'm sure I'll be posting more.

With all the stickies around, let me just answer them all in one place:

1. Which model / color / transmission / options / etc. did you get?
09 Mazda 5, MT Galaxy Grey, actually not sure of options yet, didn't have much of a choice as it was so hard to find a MT.

2. Whereabouts are you located?
Northeastern PA

3. Is this your first Mazda?
Yep!

4. What other vehicles were you considering, and what would you have bought if the Mazda5 didn't exist?
I don't even want to think about what we would have been forced to get if we didn't find the Mazda.

5. What were the main three reasons why you chose the Mazda5?
Currently have a Celica, and a Civic coupe. Neither of which are very fitting for our two dogs and soon to be born baby (about 6 weeks as of this post)

6. If you could change three things about the Mazda5 and/or the options avaliable for it, what would they be?
MT in Touring+. The green screen for the climate control / display. (Maybe this can be changed, havn't found out yet)

7. Do you plan to make any modifications?
Yep! Neither of us are wanting to be "That" grown up yet.. Tint, Rims, Stereo (for when no baby aboard) and who knows what else. Would love a Moonroof, but not sure on the feasability of putting these in aftermarket.

8. Have you seen any other Mazda5s on the road yet?
Not in this area.

9. What kind of reactions have you received from others on your new Mazda5?
Will let you know!

10. So, is the Mazda5 a MAV, a minivan, a space wagon, a microvan, crossover, toaster oven or what?

Possibly an Element (ugly), xB (uglier), or MPV (boring). Or maybe an RX-8 but don't tell my wife.

5. What were the main three reasons why you chose the Mazda5?
It looks great! It's based on the 3 platform which makes it drive like a car instead of small SUVs which are based on truck platforms. I'm partial to Mazdas. It'll fit bikes upright with the front wheel off inside the cargo area.

6. If you could change three things about the Mazda5 and/or the options avaliable for it, what would they be?
Sunroof open wider or possibly a panoramic sunroof. AUX input on 2007 model. More center console storage space.

3. Is this your first Mazda?

Yes, although i almost got a 323 back in 2002.

4. What other vehicles were you considering, and what would you have bought if the Mazda5 didn't exist?

Subaru Legacy, Mazda 6 wagon, Mazda 3 hatch, Toyota Matrix.

5. What were the main three reasons why you chose the Mazda5?

Fun to drive factor, availability of the manual transmission, versatility. Also fuel economy.

6. If you could change three things about the Mazda5 and/or the options avaliable for it, what would they be?

Third seat on the 2nd row (doesn't have to be Karakuri, they could put a 60/40 bench seat as long as they retain the recline and fore/aft motion), power drivers seat in the Luxury Package, get rid of the clear tails.

7. Do you plan to make any modifications?

Would like a lower sway bar and would love to do I/H/E but no plans yet.

8. Have you seen any other Mazda5s on the road yet?

At least 5 each day.

9. What kind of reactions have you received from others on your new Mazda5?

"That's the coolest minivan ever."
"Sweet, stick shift minivan, I'd totally rock that!"
"I'm only 17 and I want to drive that minivan."
"That's a cool Mazda 5, I don't really like the Mazda 5 but yours look pretty good." -said someone with a black Toyota Matrix with 15% tinted windows about my black Mazda 5 with <30% tinted windows... I think she just likes black w/ tint in general. :)

10. So, is the Mazda5 a MAV, a minivan, a space wagon, a microvan, crossover, toaster oven or what?

Minivan, but it's a pretty sweet minivan!

11. What question did I forget to ask?[/QUOTE]
