Mazda3??? Turboed???

:
2003 Mazda Protege5
I picked up the October issue of Sport Compact Car and I saw a small 3 paragraph article about the Mazda 3 that made me nauseous..

Page 34.

(Except from article)

"We don't expect Mazda to forfeit the goodwill it has earned with the Mazdaspeed Protege, and a Mazdaspeed 3 is inevitable. In fact, we hear rumors of a factory turbocharged and all-wheel-drive versions, though they're only the faintest rumors."

Then I thought damn, why couldnt have mazda made the P5 AWD/Turboed??

Personaly I love my car, I would never get rid of it. But god damnit I will be pissed if they slap a turbo on that car. :wtf:

I wanted to see what everyone thought about this...

I'm sorry, I had to vent...

Uh oh, I'm getting angry...(flame)

ARRRRGGH! ME WANT TURBO AND FOUR WHEEL SPINNING FUN WITH MAZDA CAR! AHHHHHHH! ME BREAK STUFF! (dark)(gun)

They have the parts right there. Considering how popular the p5 has been, you would think they would have made a Mazdaspeed version of it by now.

hey silverprotege5nj..you coming sunday to the ocean county park meet? check in the jersey local section...you should come

I'm not sure but, I thought the JDM Familia was optionally AWD...If so, that with the MSProtege already in production, should make it a piece of cake to have offered an AWD, turbo p5.
It's pretty lame that they killed the Protege just as it was getting to be really good.

Ford wanted a simpler cross brand compact platform to share amongst four brands - Ford/Mazda/Volvo/Mercury - so the 3 was basically engineered to be "it". So you have the blue oval and cost cutting to thank for the death of the Protege :(

/\ If Mitsu. can take a POS Lancer and hack the EVO out of it, then Mazda (Ford) should be able to make a (Mazda3/Familia) into one.

Also, don't knock Ford too much; they have made some pretty kick ass compacts - most not avail. in the US/ North American market - like the Cosworth Escort and the Puma.

They're a company. They need to make fiscal and business decisions, that while you may not agree with, are necessary for survival in a very competitive and global automotive market.

If you want to make a car with your own specs and your own design: do what Panoz did. Make your own company!

where in ocean county? and when..i live in ocean county..let me know.

I doubt it'll be AWD... look at all mazda cars... the 6 is not AWD... MPV is not AWD.... they'll leave it to Subaru...

Mazda's in the US true, but in Japan and many other parts of the world you can roll in a factory 160hp AWD P5. The US is not the end all be all of production vehicles, which kinda sux for us.

Don't forget the SVT Focus. That car kicks ass, and you don't have to import it. I would have bought one if I could have afforded it. The only problem with it is that it is really hard (read: nearly impossible) to tune or mod the engine.

Still, it handles great. (drive)

if i knew where ocean county park was i would maybe make it. i tried mapquest but they dont list ocean county park there.(dunno)

I have only one problem with Ford's decision on the Focus when they debuted it in 1999 (?): where it's manufactured.

One of the reasons I bought the P5 is that it's assembled in Japan. I'd rather support manufacturing and labor in a country that actually pays their employees a living wage (granted, this is more a corporate decision than a country's).

That said, I think the EuroDM Focus is a much better car than the piece of crap they decided to build in Mexico and sell in North America. They should have just imported them from England and maintained the qualiity levels. I sincerely doubt that the cost would have been prohibitive to do so.

The SVT Focus might be bad ass, but it's still a North American Focus. Now, if you start talking about the Focus RS which is avail. outside of the states, I'd buy that over an SVT anyday.
