Mazda Days - GT LIVE @ Virginia International Raceway

vir08_front.jpg

Registration is now open!!!

Once again NC Rotaries will be hosting Mazda Days during GT LIVE at Virginia International Raceway over the weekend of October 3rd - 5th. Mazda Days is part of GT LIVE's fan festival and is open to owners of all Mazda vehicles. Last year we had around 100 people sign up. This year we want to make sure everyone makes it to our special parking area!!!

We will have a special parking area set up next to The Gallery. Last year we met the crew from Grand Am KONI Series ROAR Racing (2 Mazda RX-8s) who will be coming by to hang out with us, we had Nic Ham from Grand Am ROLEX Series (SpeedSource #70 Mazda RX-8) come by for a couple of visits, met Patrick Dempsey who was driving for ROAR, got to wander through the paddock area checking out all the teams and watched some great racing as well as all the other events. This is an event you don't want to miss.

GT LIVE Fan Festival

"In 2006 GT LIVE started the concept of Fan Festivals. Now we are taking the game to a new level. Rather than us being involved in the organization of each individual Fan Festival, we decided to put you in charge. That's right, if you have an organization that wants to do a meet as part of GT LIVE, the door is now open. The formula is really simple. We provide you with a dedicated space to park your organization's cars together where you can set up a base camp, promote your group and plan a host of other activities at GT LIVE. Want to book go kart time, we can hook that up (nominal fee applies for group bookings), want to have drivers come by and do signings, we can work on that. And you can get track time in your own cars as part of Redline Street class, Tarzan's Lapping Sessions and SCCA Auto-X (Miller only), or get rides in race and drift cars."

"GT Live is still the only place where you can get it all: drifting, road racing, time attack, karting, rides in race cars and drift cars, as well as plenty of opportunities for you to get together with your buddies on and off the track. Those of you who have been with us before know what we are talking about. Don't spend another year getting left out!"

Interactive Motorsports Festival

October 3-5,the GT Live event brings the widest variety of events to a single weekend on VIR’s calendar with a pair of six-hour enduros for the Grand-American KONI Challenge sports sedans and sports cars; motorcycle stunt riding, drifting, track attack events, static displays, music, and never a dull moment. The KONI Challenge races feature cars from BMW, Porsche, Mustang, Chevrolet, Mazda and more, with star drivers from the worlds of auto racing and show business taking part. Past years have featured TV and movie star Patrick Dempsey as a driver, joined by racers whose backgrounds range from stock cars to Formula One.

Huge Update!!!

Here is an email we received from Steve of GT Live.

Things are confirmed. Here is what we will be doing. We will be adding to this list as well but here is a start. We will be using the Gallery at VIR as the "Mazda Pavilion"

Note at the bottom of the list the Grand Am portion. Can you provide me with a time that the drivers will come and sign? Let me know if there is anything else you might like to add.

- Mazda Car club located beside Gallery
- Driving Simulator - with prizes for top 10 scores each day
- Base Camp for the Mazda Drift Experience
- Formula D Pro/Am Drift Driver Lounge - with part of Gallery roped off for furniture, water, drinks, and basic hospitality
- Dealer Display
- Mazda Display
- Grand Am Car for display (provided by Roar Racing)
- Autograph Session / Meet-and-Greet with Grand-Am Drivers

Spread the word to your members as well. Hopefully this will bring more Mazdas out!

Thanks
Steve

So, we now have our own exclusive base camp for our group! The area called The Gallery is located just over the bridge and behind the Patriot Course staging area.

Also, since we have an inside line to ROAR Racing, a Grand AM KONI Series Mazda RX-8 race team who will have two cars there... a lot of the teams members will be hanging out with us as much as possible and Adam the team manager has invited everyone to visit them in the paddock area.

Driving the #61 will be:

Eddie Gramisci, Greensboro, N.C.
Chip Herr, Lititz, Pa.
Toto Lassally, Port Orange, FL
Ross Monkcton, Atlanta, GA

And for the #63, ROAR is pairing up with Makes & Models Magazine, who is sponsoring the car and providing the drivers. And they may even be bringing along a few of their own models, as well!

Drivers:

Dan Prasatthong
Hayden Duerson
Craig Duerson

All from St. Petersburg, Florida

If you're not familiar with Chip Herr...

I went two years ago. It was a blast. I have some pictures of the Roar team. They let us in the garage where the cars were being worked on. That was also the year the Cyber Evo and Tarzan were there.

I'm pretty stoked about driving the Suby WRX! For FREE!! Woohoo!

See you guys there Saturday.

I don't know if they still do it but when I was there they gave out rides in the race cars in the morning. I got to go for a ride in a Spoon RSX. AMS was giving rides in there EVO and so were alot of the Japanese teams including the Cyber EVO.

Parking
If you are with a car club and are parking together, please use the map to proceed directly to your assigned area. Mazda Days members will be parking in front of The Gallery shown on the map!!!

If you are participating in Tarzan’s Lap Battle, please park in either general parking, with your respective car club or in the area designated at the Patriot course.

Tarzan’s Lap Battle Check In
If you are driving in Tarzan’s Lap Battle you must check in at GT LIVE HQ no later than 9:00. GT LIVE HQ is located in the Patriot Tower (red barn) in the Patriot Paddock. At the time of check in you must sign a waiver, hand in your vehicle self inspection form and you will receive a wristband and number board. A blank vehicle inspection form is included at the end of this document. You must participate in a chalk talk session prior to your first session in order to receive information on track etiquette an vehicle staging.

Lodging & Camping
It is notoriously difficult to find a decent hotel within reasonable driving distance of VIR. However, we do list those we are aware of on the web site at:
http://www.gtlivetour.com/events/about_vir_acc.html

Camping is a viable option at VIR. Showers and restrooms are modern and clean. If you are with a car club and you registered online, your camping is included. If not, prices are as follows: RVs are $50 for the weekend and tents are $35. Camping passes can be purchased at the main gate
and must be displayed at all times. VIR security patrols the grounds 24/7 and they will throw out any camper without a pass.

Starting 7:00 on Thursday, October 2 the main gate is open 24/7 until the conclusion of the event.
