Lotus Eagle/Evora News Thread

They should have gone with a VQ35, the ECO-Tech 2.0 Turbo, or the 2.3 DESI from mazda. Toyota engine FTL. I imagine this will be a 911 fighter (base) but the 997 is putting well over 300hp at this point. I understand the car is light weight by today's standards but still. beautiful car though.
 
whats with all the creature comforts? i thought lotus'es were supposed to be less refined on the inside?

Look up the lotus esprit... Especially the latter generations.

eagle isn't a very lotus-like name, sounds like something that dodge/chrysler would name a car lol

considering its got a badge on the inside that says 'evora' Ill bet thats the new name...

but damn, that car would be sweet with the 3.5! I think Ive figured out what I want to get after it comes time to sell the msp =D

I'm pretty sure it's the NAM version of the car, the rest of the world gets the Evora.
 
That makes more sense but if you think about it the NAM version of the 3 is the Mazda3 where everywhere else it's the Mazda Axela.

Visitors to the London Show have already had a chance to see the new Evora up close, but Lotuss new mid-engined sportscar is still undergoing a gruelling test programme ahead of its launch next May.


Our spy photographers have snapped this prototype being tested hard at the Nurburgring. With no need for disguise, it also gives us a chance to see what the Evora looks like in a colour other than the white it used on the show stand, with this example looking pretty good in blue.


he Evora uses a 3.5-litre Toyota V6 engine producing 280bhp and should be capable of a top speed of over 170mph. Engineers who have driven the car claim that it is more than a dynamic match for its major price-point rival, the Porsche Cayman. The car has been tested extensively at the Nurburgring, with Lotus conducting its biggest ever pre-launch drive programme to ensure the car can deliver on the claims.


Lotus has also confirmed that a convertible version of the Evora will follow the coupe, and we also know that the cars versatile vehicle architecture will underpin the forthcoming V8-engined Esprit replacement, which will go on sale in 2011.
 
i like it, it is not too similiar to the elise/exige yet you can definitely tell it is a lotus

supercharged version of the new Lotus Evora 2+2 is planned and the blown version will have at least 350bhp.

The normally aspirated 276bhp version of the Lotus Evora is on target for launch in May 2009 and, although official performance figures on that car have yet to be revealed, company sources have confirmed that it will be capable of cracking 60mph in around 5.5sec and hitting 160mph.
The supercharged Lotus Evora should cut the former figure to comfortably below 5.0sec and boost the top speed to around 175mph.

However, the Evora SC is still a relatively distant priority for Lotus; its likely to arrive around 2011. Before then, attention at Hethel will be concentrated on finishing the federal version of the standard Lotus Evora, due on sale in the US in the autumn of 2009, and on other versions of the model.

A torque-converter auto version of the Lotus Evora is also in the product plan and would have strong appeal in the US, but Autocar understands that it will not be ready in time for the US launch.

Right now, its looking unlikely that well have the auto version next year, a spokesman said. Theres quite a lot of development work still to be done on it.

After the automatic will come the Evora roadster, due late in 2010. The open-top car will be a more difficult one for us than you might expect, our source said. At the 50,000 price point customers expect an integrated electric roof mechanism [unlike the manual hood on the Elise], and that presents packaging challenges for us.

With those cars delivered and at least 24 months of clear air given to the standard Evora, Lotus will time the supercharged variant to arrive in mid-2011. Weve already had a blown version of the V6 engine running on a bench, said our contact. It delivered 350bhp and 290lb ft of torque [up from 252lb ft in the standard car] without any modifications at all.
The braking (and most of the cooling) performance that the faster Evora will require has already been engineered into the standard car, which should shorten the faster models development time.

Also in preparation for the blown car, the Evoras engine bay as been designed to accommodate its supercharger between the cylinder banks, so as not to obstruct rear-view mirror visibility (which is compromised in the Elise SC).

Prices have yet to be confirmed for the standard Lotus Evora; early indications suggest that it will start from around 45,000, but currency fluctuations have made a final commitment to that price difficult.
Expect the Evora SC to eventually come in somewhere between 55,000 and 60,000, depending on specification.

Lotus' mid-engined 2+2 sports car is opening up for 2011.

The Evora is looking to put the wind up its rivals! Lotus has confirmed that the fixed roof version already in production and scheduled to go on sale on May 2 will be joined by a convertible in 2011.

Similar to its less-luxurious mid-engined sibling the Elise, the Evora convertible is likely to feature a removable fabric panel that can be left at home when the weather allows. This does away with the need for expensive and a heavy electric folding mechanism, meaning it should be every bit as sharp to drive as the hard-top. The extruded and bonded Aluminium chassis will be stiffened too, to compensate for the absence of a roof and keep body flex to a minimum.

Behind the occupants heads is the same Toyota-derived 3.5-litre V6, tuned to produce 276bhp. Performance will be scintillating with the 0-62mph sprint dispatched in around five seconds and a top speed of 160mph.

But if thats not enough to get your pulse racing dont worry rumours suggest that as well as the convertible variant, a more powerful supercharged version is under development too. And with close to 400bhp it should be able to keep pace with exotic offerings from Ferrari and Porsche.
Lotus has also fleshed out some of the pricing the imminent hard-top version. Prices will start from 47,500 which will buy you a 2+0 car without any rear seats fitted, and the two extra chairs and the price jumps to 49,875. To celebrate the car's launch, the first 200 cars in the UK will cost 58,460 but come with every conceivable extra.

The wraps first came off the Lotus Evora 2+2 GT back in July 2008 but despite the car looking production-ready Lotus engineers had plenty of fine tuning to complete before the car could finally go on sale. Then, almost nine months later, Lotus finally confirmed the production specifications for the Evora and announced a launch date for this May. That date got bumped to June, but the car is finally on its way - for Europe at least.

To ramp up excitement for the launch, Lotus has released a new set of images of the Evora, revealing the interior and several new exterior shots. The Evora will go on sale in Europe this June as a 2010 model with a starting price of 50,412 for the basic two-seater model. Opt for the 2+2 seating configuration and buyers will have to pay an additional 3,000.

No word on a U.S. launch has been announced yet but already some big name celebrities, both here and abroad, have announced interest in it. On the list are Jay Leno, Daniel Craig, Pierce Brosnan, London Mayor Boris Johnson, musician Jay Kay, Richard Hammond and James May, Beyonc, Dave Grohl, George Clooney, Kevin Spacey and Patrick Dempsey - to name just a few.

To kick off the sales launch, Lotus will be releasing a special version built in a limited run of just 450 cars. Called the Lotus Evora Launch Edition, the special version will be available in either Ardent Red or British Racing Green, and come with 2+2 seating, silver cast alloy wheels, an Alpine stereo, bi-xenon headlights and a reversing camera as standard.

The final specs for the car include a 3.5L petrol V6 producing 276hp (206kW) and 252lb-ft (342Nm) of torque. Straight line performance is impressive, with the zero to 100 km/h sprint taking place in just over 5 seconds with a top speed of over 260km/h. Official fuel economy figures for Europe are 19mpg (12.4L/100km) in the city and 36mpg (6.5L/100km) on the highway.

Standard features include a six-speed manual transmission, optimal shift time indicator, Bilstein dampers, 18in wheels up front and 19in wheels in the rear, a Bosch electronic differential lock, twin airbags, four-piston AP racing brakes, 350mm ventilated discs, halogen headlights, Recaro leather seats, aluminum trim, and an Alpine stereo.

Optional goodies include a 7in touchscreen display with satellite navigation, Bluetooth and USB connection, rear parking sensors and a camera, a titanium sports exhaust tailpipe, an engine oil cooler, a sports diffuser and an engine pack with enhanced throttle response.
