Location of Transmission Pan for filter gasket replacement - ATX

Hi there,

Im looking to replace the transmission filter and gasket. However i am not familiar with Mazda 6.
And i took a quick look under the car last night after i put it on the stands, it was dark, but i could not locate it on the Transmission case anywhere. But the trans seems to be behind the cross member...

I also need to access the valve body for Solenoid replacement...

However on the front of the tranny is a black steel pan, or atleast it faces the front of the car, is this the transmission pan? and looks to be the correct shape of the gasket...
Sorry, never seen one that is not under the car...

Any help would be appreciated...

I am looking to do the same thing to a 2003 Mazda 6s that is having hard shifts. I haven't been able to find much but I think you have found it from what I have read. Any updates would be nice. And anyone that has done this to the 3.0 Mazda 6 that has posted pics please direct me towards them. Thanks in advance....
