Hey guys, picked up 2008 cx9 GT. Having issue with the power tailgate and smart key?

Basically the smart key card opens and locks the doors normally with the press of a button. The problem is the stupid Tailgate doesn't want to open no matter what. It might open maybe once in 20 tries. The truck came with two smart keys, but the other i think has a dead battery since it doesn't even open the doors or anything.

What can i do? What would cause this?

Replace the battery in the keyfobs. Mine would not open the tailgate when the battery was low. It was OK for unlocking/locking doors but wouldn't open the tailgate.
