Just.... my car on a front wheel drive dyno for a smog test. I wish there was a "How Not To" category to post this under.

How not to...live in CA? Good old MN doesn't even care if you have cats on :D

hahaha. When I walked away on the phone and started to hear my car revving up and rocking back and forth I figured something was wrong.

this can be done.. theres a black box right next to the ecu which disconnects the rear differential power and tells the computer to apply all power to the front wheels only.. and this has to be done on the speed6's for smog testing in california. so its not complete fail, unless they forgot to unclip the connector on the black box.. ill try to get a pic of it tomorrow for clarification

he definitely didn't unclip the connector. Ended up just putting her in neutral to do the 2500 rpm test.

So why did you take your car to a smog station that doesn't have an AWD dyno? I know there are AWD smog stations in Cali.

No horsepower figures, just to read emission levels at different RPMs with an actual load.

Why did you have to smog your car? We shouldn't have to smog the car until it is six years old, that's the standard anyways.

+1, im confused.
or to trip the AWD, coulda just pulled the ebrake 1 click.

Yeah I don't know why I had to do it? I thought it was for 6+ year old cars too. I am new here and just brought the car from MA so maybe when you bring a car from another state it's mandatory. But I let him just run the test in neutral instead of telling him about the ebrake and actually having a load, better chance of passing that way it seems.

ah i see. Yes if you try to register a car in a new state, you are required to get a smog.
Shoulda just keep it registered in its state of origin. you can get away with more that way anyway!! hah

Did he fail you for any of the mods in your sig? Or is it, if it passes the output test, your clear to go? Sad, I was born and raised in San Diego, but know nothing of the Smog regs. I heard you cant have any mods on your car to get it smogged/registered in Cali.
