Help with spring install. pretty please

Hello all, I was just in the middle of my spring install and I'm at the rears now and I can't get the rear top/ middle nut loose the holds the assy together. That little plate thats under the rear nut kinda gives with it and I am afraid to brake something. Should I not worry and have at it? Just wanted to make sure I wasn't missing something. Shizz it was going great, I even got the endlink bolts off on the first try.

As soon as I get this finished up I'll post pics. Blazin Yellow w progress springs, 5mm spacers, and bfg kdw2's thanks much

try putting a big pair of channel locks on the black metal plate and holding it while you loosen the nut. cause when you turn the nut it will turn the strut if that plate is not tight.

When I did mine I wedged a large screwdriver between two of the three studs on the top of the strut plate. That kept the plate from spinning at all and was then able to break the nut loose.

Cool, thanks for the input guys. So I did the fronts weeks ago and ended up breaking an endlink and got flustered and gave up. Fixed that and decided to get started on the rear today. So my car has been uberaked for some time know.

So I finally found some time to get back on this and I still can't break the nut loose. I tried using a channel lock but I cant get enough leverage or something. I tried wedging the screwdriver in there and no dice. With the screwdriver I 've got it to the point where I can keep the plate still, but I can't break the nut loose. Am I turning it the wrong way? wtf..... I hit with some pb blaster a couple times too.

Did you try loosening the nut BEFORE you removed any others? That is tighten everything up and do the nut first.

that would require me to take the whole strut assembly out of the car then. I am about ready to do that anyway. Its the only thing keeping me from another half hour or so of work on the car. I need a vice or something to hold it while I use the impact wrench. How much would a shop charge me if I took the spring/strut assem to them and they break the nut loose, compress the stock spring, and put the new one on? Thats prob less than 10 mins of work.

Ok, finally got around to finishing these a few weeks back. I was tripping over nothing. I pulled the assy whole and broke the nut loose with my air tools. Blah. Here's some pics. Little to low for my taste. I think the KDW's make it look a little lower too. There a bit meatier than the stock potenza's. But I'll rock'em until I need new struts in the future. Progress springs, 5mm spacers, Bfgoodrich KDW2's.
