Help! Transmission wont engage

Both axles have a c-clip.

The carrier bearing holds the joint shaft in without a c-clip...

EDIT...

Apparently the joint shaft DOES have a c-clip...

Although it may not be necessary because it is held in place by the hanger bearing as mentioned ?? (I dunno... I removed both axles to do my bearings but didn't need to remove my joint shaft)

When I pulled my engine, I unbolted the carrier bearing bracket from the engine and slid the whole axle/joint shaft assembly out. I don't remember there being resistance from a clip.

I could also be confusing it with my old Camry, which most definitely did not have a clip on the passenger side axle.

turns out the spider gears on the differential fell out when I banged the axle in and the splined spider gear literally broke apart and put a big hole in the bellhousing. Deff need a new trans
