help to dissassemble door mirror for paint

I want to repaint the yellow portions of my electric door mirror. How do I get these apart? I thought about just taking the glass portion of the mirror out to see what is holding the backside on, but I do not want to break it I have tried a search on this forum, but only replacement threads came up.

IIRC, I used a small flathead screwdriver to get between the cover and mirror and pryed them apart.

So, I do need to get the mirror off first?

If you just want to repaint the plastic molded mirror caps an old ID or bank card works fine to pry it off. You don't need to take off the entire mirror. All I did was use a card to separate the cap along the top and it popped off enough I could just pull it off with my finger tips.
