Help! Are all protege axles the same?

The mechanic my car is at just called me telling me that the axle for the mazdaspeed protege is different he said its like $570 for just the passenger side! Anyone have any insight on this?

yes, the axle is different. the splines on the hub side are different, and the axle itself is thicker (iirc)

for that price you could have custom axles made... thats nuts

hmm anyone know what a reasonable price for an axle would be.... and where i can get it from? i'm probably gonna have to supply the parts if they're gonna try to rape me on the price like this.
