2000 Mazda Protege LX, 1.8L DOHC
Hi everybody, I'm new here and I could really use some advice. I've got a 2000 1.8L protege and my f25m-r is at deaths door. Fine by me. I've been wanting to change over to a g-series anyways. A few months ago I grabbed a g-series tranny from a 1997 escort spi because of the 3.85 final drive. Now, I'm fairly certain that the bellhousing won't fit my engine so I'm getting a g15m-r tranny from a 2003 2.0L protege shipped to me shortly. As for as I know, the g15m-r from the 2001+ 2.0L is a direct bolt on to my 1.8L block. I grabbed 2.0L axles, mounts (also have some awr mounts being shipped to me as well), differential (I've already swapped the escort ring gear to the 2.0L pro diff.), shifter and linkage and clutch line and cylinder from a 2001 protege in the JY when I pulled the escort tranny. I've also got an exedy clutch coming from rockauto....

The problem is that I'm beginning to get the feeling that I won't be able to swap the escort gears into the g15m-r case. I can't find ANY info online about what i'm about to try. Black hole. As a matter of fact, I can hardly find any info at all about the 2001+ 2.0L g-series trannys. I read a couple slivers of forum post info that suggest that the counter shaft and differential spacing in the case might be different. The escort tranny case also looks small to me. I thought that I might have screwed up and pulled a F-series by accident but I doubt that. The input shaft fits the 2.0L clutch plate and the taper bearings and differential are all g-series sized. I guess I'll find out what the problems will be once the 2003 tranny arrives, but, if anyone out there has any experience with this situation or can point me to someone who does i would be extremely grateful. ....and I apologize now if i've posted in a bad spot. Let me know and I'll repost somewhere more appropriate.
