General towing question

I probably won't actually be hauling much cargo but from time to time I might need to transport an empty 800 lb trailer to another location. Most vehicles you don't want to tow in overdrive...no idea what that is with CX-5. Any thoughts to a recommended gear or RPM to be at doing 55-60MPH on flat ground?

CX-5 manual says just drive in D when towing. If you hit a big hill, you can downshift manually if you wish. I've pulled close to 2000# limit across country in D and it was never straining. The computer figures out what gear to run based on your load. I would guess older cars shifted on RPM alone, but new cars have a lot more information; gas flow, air flow, etc... You probably won't even notice pulling 800# with the good low end torque of the CX-5.
