Mazda, Protege Heavily Modified
Parting out the protege and one of the first things up for grabs is a complete bolt on T3 turbo set up from the manifold to the presilencer pipe.

I am going to drop the price by $50 a day until it is sold. First to pay gets it.
Price drop $700 (July 29th)

Parts and condition:
1) OBX T3/T4 exhaust manifold (has been cracked and welded) 3/10 so will be included for nothing.
2) Tial F38 external wastegage with installed 8 psi springs (also includes a 4 psi spring).
3) Custom dump tube for the wastegate
4) Custom downpipe with O2 bung and manual exhaust cut out.
5) Custom catalytic converter pipe with flex tubing and hi-flow cat (1.5 years old).
6) Garrett T3 turbo (0.60 AR Nissan compressor housing, 0.48 AR turbine housing) Originally off a ford thunderbird.
7) Oil restrictor and drain fittings
8) coolant banjo bolts and fittings
9) gaskets (no exhaust manifold gasket)
10) reworked thermostat housing to clear the downpipe and a flexible stainless rad hose with gaskets (not in the photo)
11) Garrett AR 0.60 compressor housing (has a bit shorter outlet).
12) Braided stainless oil feed line with new 90 degree fitting at turbo (not in the photo)

The turbo has some shaft play and oil blow by. It will probably require a rebuild for serious use. The impellers are fine and have recently been rebalanced. Other than that you can bolt it right up to any 3rd gen protege or P5.

Got another pro with less rust and going back to MSP stock so getting rid of all the extra stuff. Parting out the pistons and rods, also parting out the head that was just freshly redone.

2 questions;

1: Since manifold was cracked but welded back together, would that be okay for normal boost (6-8 psi)? Or would a new manifold be a better option
2: As I am not very wise with turbos and specs of them, would any T3/T4 style turbo fit the manifold and replace the one in this set up, or would one with the same dimensions of housings and such be needed?

Hi
1) The manifold is not directly coupled to boost so as long as your engine can handle the pressure it is fine.
2) There are OBX and OBX style manifolds on ebay and can be directly substituted. If you use a different manifold it may take a bit of work around the coolant neck to get everything to fit up. There is flex tube on the midpipe so it is able to accept some movement.

Okay so the manifold weld isnt much of an issue then. And so the manifold can be swapped with an OBX or OBX styled one later if desired, but what about the turbo since it may need a rebuild and has the issues with it?
