Front and Back bumper guard

Huh?!??? That's a joke... come on, we have a micro van, not a BIG bad SUV, those bumper guards aren't supposed to be installed on a Mazda 5... seriously.

I saw a Mazda5 with one of those installed while driving. I saw the rear guard.

I want something to protect the bumpers (front and back). I live in the City, parking requires bumping. I want to protect my bumpers as much as I can, any suggestion?

How about the clear film others have used as protectant for the front (is it from 3M?). You can cover both bumpers and save the paint, but not have to lug around 100 lbs of extremely ugly metal.

Downside is that 5mph or more 'bumping' will surely do damage, but upside is not having to live with the 'safari' look.

I live in the city as well and i don't need do bump for a parking space, maybe a driving lesson weekend would help you more than a crash bar lol.

Probably protection for other drivers trying to park. I can't blame him. If I had to park a nice/new car in a place notorious for folks bumping other cars I'd try to protect it as well.

Maybe try something that isn't permanent like these products. Throw them on when you are parked and remove them when you don't need them:

It is my opinion that these are TERRIBLE solutions. I go between Phila and NYC and see them. My impression is that they are invitations for others to bump park off your car. Also, they don't cover the bumper corners so what is the point of having a clean center but ruffed up corners!?

The only thing I can suggest is using bumper strips that NY cabbies use; thick and long and mounted via double sided tape. Doesn't look very pretty but can be strategically placed and match painted. Im not sure where they get them b/c I can find those exact ones. You can also try to be adventurous and look at home depo/lowes for inspirations. Honestly, if you choose to live in a city and can't afford a parking space, you have to accept the fact and think of bumper covers as wear and tear items that need to be repainted every X number of years (X so you can plan for it). Enjoy life and your car. Repainting a bumper is not that bad if you shop around or have the appropriate insurance premium to cover it.

Living in the city with no parking spot is an invitation to messed up bumpers on modern cars. Ever since the feds dialed back the requirement from 5mph to 2.5mph bumpers styling has been saved and parking lot bumping has gotten more expensive for unfortunate parked car. My 88 BMW 535is had massive stock bumpers(called diving boards in some circles) that allowed me to park with no fear.

i personally think these make the cars look crappier especially when people put them on and never take them off

Maybe he could get the bumper protection things, but add spikes to deter those from bumping him purposely....my buddy installed licensed plates with those punk rock spikes on em, front and back, tear up other peoples bumpers like crazy. And also the unfortunate leg from time to time....

Thank you for the suggestions. My parking is fine, I want to deter others from damaging my bumpers.

UPDATE: This weekend, a small amount of paint came off from my left back bumper. I need to do something. I guess the first dent is the most painful, I still want to protect my bumpers.

Everyone is different, but I think there is a reason why all those nice new leased luxury cars sit in paid parking spaces in off-street garages.

Not saying I personally would have coughed up the cash to put my brand new car in an expensive private space. But then I might also be the type to type up nice little cards that state I've recorded their plate# and have a camera trained on the space from the apartment above (so they had better not bump) and leave them on the cars fore and aft.
