Latest Update on 03/22/2014: Posted a pic of my White Gauges 2.0 from Font Motorsports and installed Corksport lightweight crankshaft pulley
Hello all! This is my way overdue Mazda2 build thread. I've been a member on the forums for quite sometime and receiving help and guidance from the many Mazda2 guru's here. Now that I have been honorably discharged from the Navy and I'm not on deployments anymore it's time for me to give back to the Mazda2 community.
So, here it is, The Mazdaspeed2 as it sits today. I have a laundry list of parts and modifications done that I will list below, as well as my future or planned modifications, and my direction or philosophy for the build.
My direction for my Mazda2 build is to make a car that is all around balanced. It needed to be a good daily driver (in the summertime lol) and a well balanced track day car. Every modification done to the vehicle serves purpose. I also wanted to build a Mazda2 that would resemble and perform as a Mazdaspeed2 if Mazda were ever to build such a car, as many of us can only hope and dream that they do.
Here is the Mazda2 a week after I bought it off the dealer lot with only 5 original miles on it and completely stock. I instantly voided the warranty and began to modify my Mazda2.
My car has seen many stages in it's modification evolution. I started out with the basics. A Corksport intake, and Corksport Exhaust with Racepipe.
Stage 1 of the Mazdaspeed2's evolution included some serious wheel and tire upgrades and suspension modifications. I tend to purchase all my parts and install them at once. That way I don't weaken a certain area of the cars driving characteristics by not upgrading a certain area of the car.
-15x7.5 949 Racing wheels with 205/50/R15 Bridgestone Potenza RE-11 tires
- In case your were interested in the 15x7.5 949 Racing wheels here are some more pictures of the wheels versus the stock wheels.
- Bilstein Coilovers were installed as well as many other suspension upgrades. However, I only have pics of the Bilsteins.
- The Mazaspeed2's new stance after Bilstein Coilovers and numerous other upgrades.

- A week after the new modifications the Mazdaspeed2 is ready for it's first track day Nelson's Ledges Road Course.
- The day before track day. The sexy stud in the picture is me.
- In the pits and waiting for the drivers meeting at Nelson's Ledges Road Course. I was so excited that I was the first one there at the track.
- The Mazdaspeed2 did very well that day and I was shocked at what the car was capable of. I passed numerous cars that day including this Honda Civic Si. I'm way to the right of the picture.
- At a car show in Norfolk, VA were I was stationed. I took home 3rd place overall against some serious competition. 2nd place went to a Nissan GTR, and 1st went to the most wicked EvoX I had ever seen.
