engine braking

Is it okay to engine brake? Would it cause damage to the engine or transmission?

I always use engine braking decending the many mountains in the area. Depending on the grade of decent I down shift to 4th or 3rd and coast allowing the engine to brake. Rarely need to touch the brake pedal.
