Hey guys,

I have been fixing my Mazda up over time and the motor has started knocking.
The repair shop wants 3k to put a used motor with 150k on it in.

I think that is garbage and I found one on Ebay for $890.

https://www.ebay.com (commissions earned)

Does this seem like a deal I should take on a like new motor with 50k miles on it?

I love this car but is it worth it to drop more money into it beyond this.

My car:
Rebuilt transmission
New alternator
New valve cover gasket
New wheel bearing on front passenger

I have done these recently.

Well thanks ahead for any input!

Keep in mind that the engine you linked is an FSZE, not an FSDE. The ZE has higher compression and more aggressive cams, although you can't fully take advantage of these features because of the stock ECU. I have read that they will work fine in a P5, but you have to run premium gas.

When looking for a replacement, you want a 2000 and up FSDE. Older engines lacked the forged crank and better cam design. You'll want to use your replacement as a long block, and swap every sensor from the new engine onto the old, as well as the intake and exhaust manifolds.

I bought a JDM motor from Jdmenginescorp.com that is supposed to be here this week. I will photos of it in my build thread.

The JDM engines are a mixed bag, but since used engines with 100k plus miles sell around the same price on car-part.com, I figured the JDM engine was worth a shot.

How many miles on your old motor before you heard knocking? Im just curious.

Thanks

D
