CX-9 - Underbody/Frame OEM coating question

Hi folks. My first Mazda and was checking under my new 2021 CX9 and saw the protective underbody coating they apply to the frame. It looks like some areas they missed unless they apply it this way on purpose.

My 2019 Chevy Tahoe has full underbody coating applied to all nooks/crannies but they don't paint their frames its raw steel. It looks like Mazda paints their frames maybe and applies a tacky coating only on certain areas. Can anyone check my photos to see if all is well? Thanks!

Did you pay for a dealer-applied underbody coating when you bought the car? It certainly does look like the applicator missed some spots based on what I'm seeing. Maybe the guy got lazy, or the equipment they used to apply it is too bulky to reach those spots. Email the pictures to the selling dealer and see what they say.

Unfortunately I didn't get a good look at my undercarriage when I bought my car, so I'm not sure what it's supposed to look like under there.

I never do the aftermarket underbody coating stuff, so this is all OEM what your seeing. It does look like they missed some areas. I am hoping some other people who own 2021s can take a quick peak under their cars. :)

I do have the re-detail appt at the dealer monday the 22nd, I plan to look under the other cx9s on the lot lol. Good idea sm1ke,my sales lady was pretty good I'll ask her to go run to some other cx9s today to check them out.

Thanks!

I was able to find some info on am older cx5 forum, where it seems Mazda only applies addiitionalcoating to points on contact such as jackstands or where service centers may raise your car. He said Mazda leaves other areas bare.

I reached out to Mazda USA and sent them pictures to ask if the factory robots missed these parts by accident but some of the areas in my pics have a distinctive line so maybe its be design.

Lastly, I reached out to my sales lady and asked her to go crawl under some cx9s on the lots for me lol.

Yes I may have a little OCD and notice every little thing on my vehicles, a blessing and a curse all at the same time my wife says. 🤪

I am kicking myself for not noticing it while I was at the dealership last weekend buying my CX9, I blame it on the beauty of the CX9 and the distraction it caused. Lol Oh well, will see what mazda and the dealership says.

The beauty of youtube...found a few videos online, one specifically from Corksport installing their exhaust system onto a CX9.

Looks like Mazda purposely sprays this underbody coating in this manner but I plan to check out all the CX9s on the dealer lot when I go on the 22nd just to fulfill my curiously lol.
