Hi everyone,
I have a'21 but this might apply to others with a 2016 model onwards. Last winter, my CX-9 began making a ticking sound around the dash area when it was unusually cold. Not too bad but annoying enough. It was pretty hard to find as it almost sounded like it came from somewhere under the dashboard. I traced the sound to the lower left hand corner of the windshield. I verified this by having someone press down on that corner from the outside repeatedly as I sat inside. Ticking sound replicated.
Setting the AC heater to blow on the windshield to warm it up solves the problem. I'm guessing perhaps the sealant shrinks to a point where it starts making that noise when the vehicle is moving? Not exactly sure what causes the problem but ripping the windshield out just to fix it is a bit too much. The heater solution works anyway.
Anyhow, just a heads up to y'all. Hope this helps.
