Just curious, what is the difference between an AP with Dongle and without dongle?

If I'm not mistaken, the older version of the AP has a dongle, which I guess is sort of an adapter, so whenever you have your AP plugged into your car, it's the dongle that plugs into the obd2 port then the cable then hooked up to the AP.

So the dongle is a big block looking thing that sticks out. I've heard that this version of AP also logs a tad slower
