Changing tire width question?

I was looking on tirerack and I noticed that this size 225/45/r18 seems to be more popular and cheaper than our stock size, even for the same brand/model tire. 10 tires in our size vs 38 tires to choose from in the 225/45 size?
Anyone running this wider size or should I not consider it? please explain? Thanks

That should be ok it will only throw your speedometer off by less than 1mph at 60 mph.

I am running that size on mine. No problems at all. Yes, it will throw the speedometer off a little but opposite to the speedometer's factory error on stock tires. So these marginally larger tires will probably make the speedometer more accurate!

assuming my garmin nuvi is accurate, it looks like my stock speedo at 215/45/18 is pretty darn accurate. 225/45/18 will slow your speedo down a bit...meaning these new tires will make them read like 59mph when you're actually going 60mph.
