would it be stupid to weld the sway bar and the u clamps together? it does it need to move around a bit or what.

The sway bar and the U clamps are seperated by the bushing.. and if you welded them together or the u clamps to the body of the car.... you would never be able to change the bushings...

What are you trying to fix or change that would make you want to weld these parts together?

The bar twists in the bushing when doing its job so you need to allow for the relative motion between the bar and the clamps. Quick answer, yes it would be stupid.

removed the clamps altogher... no bushings now just endlinks. may be it'll tear the shocks may be not i'll send a memo-- i was talking about the gap here though it would make the bar one piece with the clamp, but not the body of the car. have a look here: http://www.msprotege.com/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=78250
