Believe me, I'm checking the tires I have now and will check the manufactured date on any new tires I buy from now on.

Checked the tires we put on the P5 over the summer. Made the 13th week of 2008. We're good to go (2thumbs)

I have a feeling that the places that will have old tires will be more the discount tire centers, such as Walmart, Sam's Club, etc, since they buy in such large quantities, or the little mom and pop shops that don't go through inventory very quickly.

I wonder about some of the less prominent online tire retailers...the Hankooks I bought from onlinetires.com last year were from early 2004.
