2004 Mazdaspeed Miata
Hey guys, havnt been on the forum for awhile. Recently I traded my 06 MX5 for a 2004 MS, just wanted to show her of. Now dont get any druel on the finish! The Red is the MS, while the black is the old one. Traded the 06 with 14000 miles for the 04 with around 4000.

Why the hell would anybody trade a new car for an older one with less value, you may ask? Go out and drive the MS and youll see for yourself. To sum it up, I did it because I can get 200whp in the Speed easily, with just a exaust, intake, downpipe, and maybe bigger intercooler. Then theres the fact that the 06 was in a huge hailstorm, I could never get over that. And look at the MS for god sakes, i could just stand there and look at it forever. While the 06 was good looking, it just doesnt compare to the second generation. Its more of a classic look. The 06 on the other hand looks almost like a mini rx8.

The 06 was an incredible car, i mean the fact that I put 14000 miles on it in 6 months is a testament to that. I just found that it wouldnt satisfy me in the long run performance wise. Sure theres a SC kit coming out for the 06, but i dont wanna risk destroying my engine with an unproven kit while I could do minor upgrades, get the same power, and have a better chance of keeping the warranty on the speed. The MS isnt for everyone. It doesnt have as much room as the new one, has an older chassis, isnt as good for everyday drivability, and has slightly worse fuel economy. I would say that if you want a better drivers car, go with the MS, while if you want a cruiser, go with the 06. It has more interior space, a 2 liter engine thats has more power on the low end, a top thats simpler and easier to operate, less wind buffeting, more trunk space, and more cup holders(why the hell you would need 4 cup holders in a two seater, i dont know). The bad thing is that the stock suspension is to soft for those that like to drive aggressively, and the optional suspension package is no better. To see these cars with their full potential in the twisties, you got to have a Mazdaspeed suspension. Hughes I think you can testify to that.

Anyone else have a MS around the Austin area? Havnt seen any around.

i frequently see a greyish one around round rock, but i have no idea if they're on the boards or anything.

k-lea, dunno could have been. was it last monday the 12th around 9-10pm or saturday the 17th around 9, 12pm? On 35 or, 79? I pass through there alot so i could be forgetting one time or another. If you see a young dude with elvis glasses and black fuzzy dice around the mirror in a red speed blaring the clash, chances are that thats me. Oh, and i always have the top down on sunny days and cool nights.

Ahh, I see. The reason I ask is because not many of the Austin speeds are all stock, this one was (as far as I could tell) and it seems like you have no mods from the pictures. I don't remember the exact day, but yea..

..join mazda-speed.com. The Austin MSMs are trying to get some meets going.

[edit] Just realized the dice in that picture, it was you because I remember seeing the black dice. MYSTERYSOLVED, or something..[/edit]

To bad you dont live down here, we have alot of twisties. Nothing like running LCR early in the morning while theres no one out there. Have you seen alot of modified MSMs? If so, is 200whp from intake, exaust, and downpipe possible?

Hmm, didnt know it was so widely known, even by out of towners. I well, I dont care as long as the road is free of dumb ricers in front wheel drives trying to imitate Tokyo Drift or Initial D. Im afraid that the more accidents that occur down there, the more likely there are to be cops. If she drives a miata she cant be that bad of a driver.

Heh, I know all about LCR. I haven't seen many around, I just got into the MSM scene. I had a 01 Miata LS before and I was mainly around protege's and what not. I've seen a few, yes.

As for the mods, it's possible. (add a fmic and you are good to go) :)

heh, yea.

my car is also in pieces due to some mods, and he thought i stole my car.
"What year is this?"
"2004.."
"What kind of car?"
".........mazdaspeed miata?"

i stopped him and asked him why he was asking me he said "possibly because of your speed and your interior being ripped out." (not word for word)

and then the questions kept rolling.

got one yesterday..

Damn cops, dont have anything better to do. Cant be as bad as me though, somehow I managed to rack up three tickets in the month after I got the 06. That has to be some kinda record. Now I just keep the speed on LCR since its only 10 minutes or so from my apartment I just go there to get my speed fix.

Why do you say intercooler as the first upgrade? I know the stock one gets heatsoaked easy, but is it so bad to where the ecu turnes down the boost all the time?

oh, ok. I should be getting some upgrades pretty soon cause my old 97 escort with 187000 miles was totalled in an accident.poor car, wasnt the prettiest thing but she did the job. been in the family for 10 years. So once the other persons insurance coughs it up, im gonna be zoom-zoomin.
