Hey guys, havnt been on the forum for awhile. Recently I traded my 06 MX5 for a 2004 MS, just wanted to show her of. Now dont get any druel on the finish! The Red is the MS, while the black is the old one. Traded the 06 with 14000 miles for the 04 with around 4000.
Why the hell would anybody trade a new car for an older one with less value, you may ask? Go out and drive the MS and youll see for yourself. To sum it up, I did it because I can get 200whp in the Speed easily, with just a exaust, intake, downpipe, and maybe bigger intercooler. Then theres the fact that the 06 was in a huge hailstorm, I could never get over that. And look at the MS for god sakes, i could just stand there and look at it forever. While the 06 was good looking, it just doesnt compare to the second generation. Its more of a classic look. The 06 on the other hand looks almost like a mini rx8.
The 06 was an incredible car, i mean the fact that I put 14000 miles on it in 6 months is a testament to that. I just found that it wouldnt satisfy me in the long run performance wise. Sure theres a SC kit coming out for the 06, but i dont wanna risk destroying my engine with an unproven kit while I could do minor upgrades, get the same power, and have a better chance of keeping the warranty on the speed. The MS isnt for everyone. It doesnt have as much room as the new one, has an older chassis, isnt as good for everyday drivability, and has slightly worse fuel economy. I would say that if you want a better drivers car, go with the MS, while if you want a cruiser, go with the 06. It has more interior space, a 2 liter engine thats has more power on the low end, a top thats simpler and easier to operate, less wind buffeting, more trunk space, and more cup holders(why the hell you would need 4 cup holders in a two seater, i dont know). The bad thing is that the stock suspension is to soft for those that like to drive aggressively, and the optional suspension package is no better. To see these cars with their full potential in the twisties, you got to have a Mazdaspeed suspension. Hughes I think you can testify to that.
Anyone else have a MS around the Austin area? Havnt seen any around.
