A Pillar Support?

I was just wondering if the A Pillar Support was really needed or not. I just installed my dual gauge pod and it wont fit with the support because the support gets in the way of the plastic screws I used to mount the pod. Hers a pic:

I NEED to know if this piece is neccessary to have on the car because I don't want to drive my car if it should be on there.
