Just bought me a 93 protege LX automatic for a daily driver and knew it had some transmission issues. But I only payed $700 for the car in running condition with a clean title. I work at a Ford/Mazda dealer. My tech diagnosed the tranny and said its an ATF Thermosensor. I found an entire working transmission for $65 and he volunteered to swap it out for $100. As far as I can tell the thermosensor is part of the valve body? We are unable to find it in the parts catalog though so if anyone could provide some help id appreciate it.
