91 mazda protege trans swap

I'm thinking about swapping my auto trans for a manual so what i am asking is how hard would it be to do the swap? are their any electronics that need to be changed?

The only thing to do electronics-wise is to either wire up the clutch safety switch for the clutch pedal or jump the pins for the neutral safety switch in the automatic wiring harness. Not that hard, it's been done hundreds of times. Just get the right transmission and the mounts as well in case they're different. To better help, what engine do you have in the car?

Pretty much any transmission will bolt to that engine. An F-series transmission has taller gear ratios for better fuel economy and a G-series transmission has shorter gear ratios for better acceleration. Though you can swap the fifth gear from a V6 MX-6 or V6 Ford Probe into a G-series trasmission to improve fuel economy a little bit when in fifth gear. Stop by your local junkyards to see what they have.

I just read on another forum some guy said he had to swap out the whole wiring harness, does this really have to be done? I think he said it because he said the fuel rail on the bp motor has an 8 pin connector instead of the 6 pin connector on the b8. 2 extra pins being for the vics

don't mean to steal this thread, I've just been hearing on a lot of different forums that a lot of different transmissions will bolt up to these engines and was wondering if that holds true for the automatics. I just bought a 93 protege lx with the dohc and found out the transmission is pretty far gone. Can I pull a tranny from an escort or anything else? Thanks.

As long as the transmission is comeing from a BP-powered Escort, it should work. I'm not sure about the 1.9L transmissions swapping over.

The DOHC BP does have VICS, but I don't think the SOHC B8 does. If you were to swap the head as well, then you would need to swap the wiring harness. If it's just the transmission, you should just have to do what I stated before.
